“Ex-Con: Where Do I Fit In Anti-Gun Campaign?” the New Haven Independent headline reads.
The “ex-con” is James Hanton, “released from jail this spring, [who] complained that he can’t vote to retain or replace elected officials who have a direct impact on how thoroughly or not gun violence is going to be rooted out of his community.”
“A lot of us coming out of prison want to go in a different direction,” Hanton said, “but because we have these roadblocks in the way ... You’re saying in order to make these changes we need to vote, or we need to organize. What do you give a person like me?”
Roadblocks. Just put there in front of him. He isn’t being given enough.
The fault should be assigned to others.
Let’s go back in time three years, where we learn about someone imprisoned for robbery to “feed his drug addiction”:
James Hanton, 44, of Bridgeport, said that while he was on parole, employment concerns were placed ahead of treating his substance-abuse issues.
"I got into some issues with the director of the halfway house. His issue was work, work, work. My thing was that I had to get into some outpatient treatment, because being clean in prison and being clean out in the world are two different things," Hanton said.
So he can’t control himself and he won’t work to pay his own freight? But he wants to stake a claim on controlling you, your rights, and how the fruits of your labor are divvied up?
And then there’s this:
…I said to the judge, 'Listen, I'm right around the corner from parole. Do you want to be my next victim?'" Hanton said.
Help me, before I physically menace again!

It isn’t uncommon for felons to have residents unarmed.
Much safer for them.
This guy appears to be a good candidate for recidivism.
Can’t wait to get locked up again.

That direction being back in your house to get what they consider their stuff and their money that you actually think is yours (criminals are actually very much like the government in this regard.) They want the freedom to rob and kill without having to worry about their victims fighting back. You bet criminals are for gun control it makes their jobs a lot safer.

Amen brother! If you want a safer society make it easier, not harder, for law abiding citizens to arm themselves. If fact it would not be a bad idea to require all able bodied citizens to take some form of firearm safety course in order to, oh, I don't know, buy a house. Just saying.

*IF* he has made a decision to turn his life around, and We the People allow him to roam the streets with our families, why doesnt he get a vote ???
now the flip side of course is that he must conform to society and follow thru, and if not, then We the People should be *required* [much less merely 'permitted'] to take out the trash if and when he reverts to his addictions to drugs and fast money...

I’ve always stated that if a person can’t be trusted with FULL citizenship rights, he should not be released from custody.
