Assange doesnt believe what he is doing is espionage.
Even a lot of people on our side support what he’s doing. Go to some of the Ron Paul and Tea Party message boards and they like this Assange guy because they think he’s exposing corruption of the federal government.

I think that there is some truth to that view. However, he’s also exposing a lot of sensitive info that very well may get people - a LOT of people - killed, up to and including lighting off some real instabilities that could turn into real wars and get real US servicemembers killed. That trumps the first part IMHO. By a lot.
There are a lot of people out there that are foolish enough to believe that our government could and should operate in complete and total transparency. However, a lot of them also tend to be pretty close to being anarchists and believe they have a right to know everything about everyone else, but no one has a right to know anything about them.
