Not too many Barns full of rats in Suburbia.
Feral Cats around here put a big hit on birds.
I had to move my bird feeder inside the back fence with the dogs. Neighborhood cats were targeting the birds before I moved it.

Wait until they start having a terrible rodent problem. Cats hunt their own eats. Plus, rodents are harder to hit with a shotgun.

I started seeing rat pop in my barn, so I got a couple of feral cats from a place that fixes them and returns them to the wild.
I was told that if I kept them in a cage for about a month, they would consider my barn their home and wouldn't run away.
It worked like a charm, they hang around the barn and keep it rodent free. They have actually become pretty friendly too.
I tell them all the time, "Okay, I'll feed you, but I better not see any rats." LOL
I think using them as barn cats is a good way to save a lot of these animals. Every barn I have been to either has cats or rats. Most people prefer cats.

I remember driving around Rodman Naval Station in Panama while on patrol and I saw about two hundred cats behind the mess hall and next to a warehouse where they lived. They were a real problem and we tried everything to get rid of them. Then one night I noticed they were all gone so I congratulated the public works officer for getting rid of them but he denied doing it. Then a week later as I was driving by the mess hall I saw a Jaguar stalking a cat and then I knew what happened to all the strays.
