Palin, I knew Reagan. You're no Reagan.
CNN ^ | 12/1/10 | Ed Rollins

Posted on 12/01/2010 12:06:59 PM PST by pissant

Editor's note: Ed Rollins, a senior political contributor for CNN, is senior presidential fellow at the Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency at Hofstra University. He is a principal with the Dilenschneider Group, a global public relations firm. He was White House political director for President Ronald Reagan and chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.

(CNN) -- The first date is over. Not much happened. President Obama and his new governing partners, the House and Senate Republicans, met at the White House along with the Democratic leaders and discussed the unsolvable issues between them.

Even though they made no decisions and both sides went their separate ways, they agreed to start negotiations on extending the tax cuts. That in itself is the beginning of a positive process. They actually talked to each other and talked of a plan for action.

As with real dating, both sides have to get along or nothing will happen. So maybe this situation has more in common with an arranged marriage.

The American voters are the substitute parents, and they want this marriage to work or at least to be civil. And we, the voters, hold the shotgun.

Ed Rollins - just another establishment, ruling class, blue-blood, country club Republican. The more they hate Sarah Palin, the more I like her.

I’m really no fan of Sarah Palin, but the more she’s attacked, the more I feel like coming to her defense. If she does run in 2012, I will vote for her just to spite her attackers.

Maybe he can replace Kathleen Parker on her CNN show. They’re both top-dollar whores, one in politics, the other in the MSM.

Sarah Palin is 46.

Ronald Reagan was 46 in 1957.

I’d say the Sarah Palin of 2010, compares very favorably with Ronald Reagan circa 1957.

I have to believe The Gipper would wholeheartedly agree.

I’ll vote for her too, if she’s the most conservative one in the race. That will be highly doubtful.

Exactly my thoughts...they are only solidifying her base, including me. They’re making it harder for her to win in the general though.

Nope, she’s Sarah, and that’s good enough for many millions of us, Ed. A principled conservative who fights against the establishment, as it’s grinding our country into ruins.

This argument that the media elites want to have about Palin and Reagan is designed for distraction. Shame on Ed for playing the media’s game. We have real problems and fears that are facing the electorate, and at the very least, Palin is one of the few who is addressing these and fighting back.

Reagan was Reagan, and he made mistakes, too. Chiefly was selecting Bush for his V.P., but that’s water under the bridge. Sarah is Sarah, and she has and will make mistakes, but many of her supporters appreciate her willingness to lay it all on the line for the good of the country. She’s got guts in spades.

So let those critics stand on the sidelines and criticize and call her names. Big deal. She’s doing the messy and hard work and that’s something even Reagan himself would appreciate.
