New FCC plan to oversee Internet draws GOP fire
Washington Times ^ | 12/1/10 | David Eldridge

Attracting immediate fire from congressional Republicans, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission on Wednesday outlined a modified "net neutrality" plan that would expand the federal government's power to regulate traffic over the Internet.

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, President Obama's pick to head the agency, said he was pushing for an FCC board vote later this month on his proposal - before the next Congress is seated with a GOP majority in the House and an expanded Republican minority in the Senate.

The chairman's modified proposal was seen as decidedly more friendly to business interests than a proposal he outlined in October 2009, but Republicans on Wednesday were already promising oversight hearings and legislative action early next year if the Obama administration endorsed it.

Critics see the net neutrality push - even a watered-down version - as a government power grab and a threat to the major telecommunications companies such as Comcast and Verizon who are building the nation's fast-growing broadband and smart-phone networks.

Congressional Republicans are awesome.

I was worried that the FCC would rule by fiat and censor the Internet but now I have hope Republicans will stop the FCC.

But many on this forum as in the liberal mainstream media use the actions of a handful of RINOS to slander all Republicans.

Also Republicans wrote that letter to democrats and Reid pledging to filibuster any more socialist bills in this lame duck session.

I think those obsessed with a handful of RINOS, posting non-stop about them here protest too much. Never see them post against democrats/marxists who are systematically destroying the U.S..

The EPA, FCC, TSA, NPR, FDA ,HHS, HUD, government schools etc. must be abolished.

We sent a message in November but I’m still not going to hold my breath until I see the final draft, signed, sealed, and delivered.

Why would Republicans even mention this about the FCC trying to censor the Internet if as you suggest they are no good?

99% of the American people don’t know this FCC is about to censor the Internet and rule by fiat.

Likewise most Americans don’t know what the democrats are doing in the Lame Duck session.

The republicans shouldn’t let the demonrats pass a single bill, even if they have to block the entrances and fistfight them to keep them out of the capitol building.

The chairman's modified proposal

Why are the Republicans even allowing him ANY proposal when they should be chasing him out the door. Give them an inch, the'll take a mile.

No that is not obsession that is survival instinct. RINOs Snow, Collins, and Brown enabled the Roman Senate to pass the food safety bill, a measure that under the guise of “protecting our food supply” actually raises food prices and allows national gov’t to control food sources. WE NEED POLARIZATION! AMERICA MUST BE FORCED TO CHOOSE FROM TWO EXTREMES!!!!!!!!!!80% of us are conservative and constitutional. When push comes to shove we will choose freedom and liberty. WE HAVE TO BE GIVEN THE ABSOLUTE CHOICE! Don't dilute the message by accepting moderation when our situation calls for EXTREME measures

Rinos are lower than whale sh!t! Rinos are dims in sheep’s clothing... they are evil because they lie... they cheat and they steal. They deserve total destruction politically... there can be no response to rinos that that could be construed as “obsessive”... as with the treatment of cancer... and they are surely a cancer on America!

The FCC was created by FDR as a tool to quash his enemies in the media (radio, in those days). It has always been a political tool. It should be eliminated.

Republicans DID NOT HAVE TO EVENT BRING THIS FCC power grab up. They didn't . Republicans have enough to repeal like Obamacare, bank regulations etc. and enough to fight for like the Bush tax cuts. If Republicans are so evil then why bring this FCC thing up at all since 99.9% of the American people don't have a clue that the FCC is about to rule by fiat and censor the Internet. Come all you democrats posing as conservatives here to bash Republicans, answer the question I just posed. I dare you.

You are changing the topic sonny. We are debating this FCC power grab here. And we are debating how the Republicans are trying to stop this FCC power grab and censoring of the Internet. You can't bash Republicans enough on this FCC thing so you change the subject.Typical.

Republicans didn't have to fight this FCC censoring the Internet. Nobody was pushing them. 99% of the people have any idea what the FCC is doing or what it means. I bet even most here on this forum don't know or understand the importance of stopping the FCC. That the Republicans are threatening the FCC not to do this tyranny, not to censor the Internet or the FCC will face the next Congress is a heroic and very important deed. And I know that makes you GOP haters heads explode. Funny that you all find yourselves on the same side as the liberal mainstream media as the media hate Republicans too and tries to destroy them at every turn. Funny that you all agree with the center of evil in the world, the liberal mainstream media.

You demand perfection and no mistakes at all out of a group of lawyers who are politicians when no group is perfect. you all demand perfection of a group that voted 85% for limiting government and against Amnesty, 100% against government healthcare. But you say nothing against democrats who are systematically destroying the U.S. Let he who is perfect or without sin cast the first stone.

Even your namesake Reagan made a mistake ,Amnesty (well that's what the liberal media tells me). But to me Reagan , a Republican ,was still the greatest president. So by many of all your standards Reagan is a RINO too. BS. We live in reality, which is an imperfect world. You all would have us believe a few RINOS , a handful of Politicians, are responsible for the Ocean of government regulations crippling our businesses and freedom, and for the Ocean of illegals pouring in. Well I know the ones responsible for this evil socialism are the democrat party which includes the mainstream media.

why bring this FCC thing up at all

Because they are bought and paid for by Comcast et al. Duh.

99.9% of the American people don't have a clue

That's why the bribed RINO politicians expect to get away with it.

I bet even most here on this forum don't know or understand the importance of stopping the FCC.

The people on this forum who understand the issue are aware that the people who need to be stopped are the incumbent cable/phone companies, who wish to use the special privileges granted to them by government to shut out Internet competition.

"Net Neutrality" is simply a proper government response to attempted fraud (i.e. corporations that represent their services as "access to the Internet" are attempting to substitute "access to only those parts of the Internet that fit their business plan"). Government should crack down on this for the same reason government should crack down on someone who sells packages labeled "100% ground beef" which actually contain 75% ground beef, 20% vegetable filler, 3% dead insects, and 2% sawdust.

Republicans are trying to stop this.

I meant that the media hides things like what the FCC is doing from the public.

The Republicans could have just stayed quiet but didn’t and are trying to fight the FCC and stop the FCC.

Guess you didn’t read the article but look for any reason to unfairly bash republicans.

Republicans are trying to stop this.

Yeah, because it interferes with the consumer-fleecing agenda of the people who bribed -- excuse me, "made campaign contributions to" -- them.

“The vote on the food saftey bill was not encouraging.”

What, what, oh what must we do to get people into the legislature who will act right?

“we sent them there to cockblock the sock puppet and his clown posse.”

Does that mean the same thing as “knock their dicks in the dirt?” If so, I’m with you.
