2 school districts use job-creation funds for employee bonuses

Employees of Sacramento County's two largest school districts will soon have extra money in their pockets, thanks to one-time federal stimulus dollars meant to create education jobs.

Two Elk Grove unions, including its teachers union, already have signed off on the plan and expect their checks in January.

The Sacramento City Unified School District also is using a good chunk of its $9 million in Jobs Fund money to restore a portion of the pay cuts employees took earlier this year. Teachers will receive $600 bonus checks by June 30 and a salary increase of 0.75 percent this school year.

Both Elk Grove and Sacramento City unified are hanging onto the rest of the money to stave off future layoffs. Neither district has made any new hires with the funds.

Holding onto the money is not what the federal government intended when it authorized the funds, the state Department of Education says.

It sent word to county schools chiefs to "spend these funds as quickly as possible."

Someone needs to publish the total of US taxpayer money that has gone to the unions since BO took office. Why should all 50 states have to finance his payoffs to union voters? I want to see our conservative congressmen and senators follow the money to unions when they talk about “government spending.”

Teacher Unions make police unions look like lightweights when it comes to graft.

Just proves the point that stimulus monies are not suitable for creating jobs. Stimulus is, one hopes, a one-time shot in the arm while new employment is a commitment for infinity or retirement, whichever comes first. Why would businesses, including school districts, create new jobs with that kind of deal?

Once upon a time, this used to be called, "misappropriation of funds." It was considered a crime, complete with jail time. I know... such an anachronism. Get with the program Okie...

I'm sure Kamala Harris will get right on top of it. After all, they're Stimulus Funds!

Uh, where's Tim Curry when you need him?
