"N. Korea deploys more multiple-launch rockets: source

SEOUL, Dec. 3 (Yonhap) -- North Korea has added more multiple-launch rockets capable of hitting the South Korean capital, a military source said Friday, amid heightened tensions over the North's fatal artillery attack on a South Korean island.

The North's rockets and long-range artillery, capable of raining down shells on Seoul, which lies about 50 kilometers from the heavily armed border, are the biggest defense concern for South Korea. "

Great. This is exactly what I did NOT want to see. It sounds like the DPKR is mobilizing additional artillery (as if they didn't already have enough) along its side of the DMZ opposite from Seoul. Prior to this, the ROK and DPKR military build up in the wake of last weeks artillery attacks was confined to the Yellow Sea border area. This news also jibes with the intel that came out yesterday that the DPRK is planning to fire arty at the ROK mainland.

It seems like we are in such a fast news cycle in this day and age; that we half expect a story like this to just go away.

Yea. The collective attention span in this country is sad.

Maybe someone with some more expertise can chime in. It’s widely accepted that the DMZ/38th parallel is the most heavily militarized area in the world. The North already has forward deployed in fixed/hardened sites massive amounts of artillery, the longer guns which can reach out and touch downtown Seoul.

If the DPRK is mobilizing even more artillery to the DMZ (in addition to the reported buildup along the Yellow Sea coast) I bet the lights are staying on late tonight in the Pentagon and USKF HQ.

I’m I off, or is this I fairly concerning escalation to be beefing up along the DMZ.

As hard to believe as it may be, NK seems to think they can keep cranking things up because big brother China will back O down. As Chamberlain proved, you can create war by striving too hard for peace.

I bet the South could wipe out the North in short order.

” is this I fairly concerning escalation to be beefing up along the DMZ. “

It is worrisome — even if NK’s reason for this buildup is mere ‘intimidation’, when you have that many forces, at such a high state of alert, (both sides) the chances of a relatively minor incident brewing up into full-blown ‘accidental war’ increase exponentially.....

I was actually pretty impressed by the ROK/Japan/US response to this last attack. They told China to go pound sand regarding more talks with the DPKR and they have been agressively war gaming and building up forces in the region.

However, it may be too late to take a tough stance to the NORKs. The US/Japan/ROK have been playing Chamberlain with the DPRK for far too long and it looks like it may be time to pay the piper.

It would be a bloody victory....thousands dead in Seoul alone....the Norks won’t go quietly into the night when they fall.

Hmmmm.

When Obama was elected, I predicted that a current US enemy would take advantage of his perceived weakness to act aggressively, and ultimately bring down the Obama administration (as in: he runs for re-election and loses).

It would be Jimmy Carter, part II.

But, I expected it would be Iran again -- as in a nuclear attack on Israel or some other Middle Eastern country (maybe even a US base in Afghanistan).

It's looking like it might be North Korea, instead. But, I think Obama will just repeat the Clinton strategy of appeasement and give them something to behave.

I agree, It is so infuriating because the leadership of the North really does not give a damn about the people of the North.

President Lee should a general evacuation of Seoul and Barry should order all U.S. nationals out NOW. Ditto for Japan.

Obama will do nothing, but Little Kim is most likely the deciding factor.

If Little Kim blows this one and orders his artillery to fire on the South, all bets are off. The resumption of the Korean War is on.

...well thank god we took South Korea’s advice and elected a good diplomat who will try peace first as opposed to a violent cowboy who will make things worst. :)

Seriously though: hey South Korea - how’s that “hope and change” working out for you?
