Estimate to deport all illegal immigrants now $135B
Houston Chronicle ^ | December 3, 2010 | Susan Carroll

Back in 2007, a U.S. senator asked ICE's then-Assistant Secretary Julie Myers to estimate the cost of finding and deporting all of the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. According to the New York Times, Myers pegged the price tag at $94 billion.

Now that the illegal immigrant population in the U.S. has declined by about 1 million, the cost has somehow increased significantly, to $135 billion, according a new estimate from the Department of Homeland Security, prepared in response to questions from Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

So DHS is saying essentially that the cost estimate increased by about 30 percent in three years, while the undocumented population declined by roughly 8 percent? Interesting math.

But now we plan on sending each one back with a little cash in their pocket. /sarc

Estimate to deport all illegal immigrants now $135B.

In light of recent disclosures concerning the Fed, this is chump change.

They walked here, let them walk home.

Stupid premise. Make it very difficult for the illegals to find work, and they’ll deport themselves. A true cost-cutting measure that!

How stupid. Just dry up the jobs and the “entitlements” and they’ll go home on their own...problem solved.

How much does it cost us to let them stay? I would guess that it is more than twice that figure.

Count me in. The savings over the years would be many times more than 135 billion.

It is a heck of a lot cheaper than allowing them to stay. It used to be that people believed that they added money to our economy but all the latest studies have clearly shown that it costs us a bundle to allow them to stay in this country. America is for Americans!!!!!

...ther’s too many of them...they would have to be deported at gun point, and they would resist at gunpoint...and whoosh...up goes Civil War Two

Lets do it. We can even spend a few million more and give them a final payoff.

This would actually save a whole lot of money and grief.

Furthermore, if people in Mexico knew that leaving the country for the US wasn’t an option, maybe they would get motivated to actually do something about improving their country.

Maybe... but unless we fix the border problem, they will just accumulate again.

SECURE THE BORDER!

...estimated 12 million illegal immigrants...

As usual, the morons in the government can't get their figures right. The figure is "unexpectedly" higher. Probably closer to 30 million. $135 billion my @$$. Start enforcing the laws, get Holder's thugs off Arizona's ass and the illegals will just go home on their own. Proof is Arizona's SB1070. Illegals left Arizona in droves and went to the more lawbreaker friendly "blue" states. START ENFORCING OUR LAWS and it won't cost anyone a penny.

This is total BS - about as good as the line “$1.00 in unemployement payments generates $2.00 in the economy” crap.

If the current laws where enforced, and the border was protected, Our Amigo would be running back to their homeland Post Haste!
In fact they might pay you for a ‘safe passage’ ride back to the border!

It would have been a whole lot cheaper to build the fence. And more jobs would have been created.

Here’s what you do: take the $135 billion, buy Mexico, develop it (lotsa houses with lawns, pools, lotsa motels and restaurants, lotsa farms) — and all the illegals will cross illegally back into Mexico. Case closed. Next case.

That's roughly $12K per illegal. Hate to say it, but that sounds about right. You have to calculate apprehension fees, detention fees, litigation costs and the like. It adds up quick.

Still, $12k per illegal is probably a freakin bargain compared to what it would cost to keep them here instead.

exactly what I was thinking... since when is the onus on America to send them home.... just tell them to get out and give a date.

this is typical liberal obamanation mindset

Tell you how you can do it for free. Just enforce the immigration laws we have now and they’ll leave on their own accord. Thank yew and send me a dollar for that tidbit. Oh, and perhaps incorporate Mexico’s immigration policy in ours.
