We need to keep the current tax structure in place at least for 2 years, preferably more.
An unemployment extension is needed or you will have millions with zero spending power....and others, who are worried about the jobs they hold, will now be worried about no saftey net for THEM should they lose their.
There could not be a time which necessitated more urgent thinking, and you make the claim there is no urgency. What a joke.

The reason to not dive headlong into this has NOTHING TO DO WITH TAX CUTS. It’s about the effort to ROB the new Tea Party folks taking seats from HAVING ANY POWER TO STOP SPENDING.
You stop spending COLD if you refuse the DEBT CEILING INCREASE. Boehner is trying to get that put into negotiations so the new Congress will have its hands tied.
It can be done next year and made retroactive.

The only reason to extend the benefits is out of common decency and not wanting people to suffer. There is no real economic benefit to having people sitting around doing nothing.
If we really wanted to fix the problem we would require these people to be at jobs centers from 9-5 monday-Friday.
