'Never mind." That, in a nutshell, is the White House's new position on domestic oil exploration. In March, President Obama announced that he would allow -- or at least entertain -- some new oil development off the Atlantic Coast and in the eastern Gulf of Mexico. This week he reversed himself, saying such exploration is now off the table for at least five years.
Only the most black-hearted cynics among us would even contemplate the notion that Obama had his re-election prospects in, say, Florida in mind when he made his decision. Then again, some believed that Obama's initial decision to consider expanded oil exploration was a political pander, too. So let's assume sincerity all the way down the decision tree.
The real problem with the White House's attitude toward oil, and energy generally, is how deeply ideological it is. Few presidents have talked a bigger game about pragmatism while pursuing a dogmatic agenda.
To be fair, the White House is hardly as radical as many of the Greens descending on Cancun this week for the next round of fruitless climate-change talks. For instance, Kevin Anderson, director of Britain's Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, recently authored a paper in which he argues that Western nations should use WWII-style rationing to halt economic growth for the next 20 years in order to curb greenhouse-gas production. There's a winning political agenda!
Obama doesn't advocate anything so stark, but that's not necessarily a point in his favor. Radicals like Anderson are honest about the trade-offs between climate-change policies and economic growth.

And of course, we have enormous coal and gas reserves to boot. We're literally sitting on top of energy Independence and balanced trade.

You will not be able to drive your suv as much as you want.
“when he made his decision”
Obama doesn’t make decisions. Did Charley McCarthy makes decisions?
What does it matter what Obama’s real plan is?
Decision have consequences and his decisions mean we are more dependent on foreign oil.
Is he trying to force up gas prices, trying to force us to go green, trying to destroy our economy?
If so he is doing a fine job of it. That’s exactly whats happening.
Gas prices are going up, Heating fuel prices are goping up Electricity rates are going up,
Many people are buying hybrid cars with batteries that cost $5,000 to replace and will be worth nothing come trade in time.We are buying wind generators from China
The economy sucks.
Obama is ding a great job of keeping America’s economy in the toilet. Lets elect the SOB again so he can keep up the good work.
If he has a plan, it is simply to wreak havoc on the American economy and society. There is no doubt in my mind that if it were in his power to turn us into another Zimbabwe, he would do it in a heartbeat. With himself being the US Mugabe, of course.
Of course, there is always the possibility that 0 simply follows the dictates of the people and groups that put him where he is: the unions, homosexuals, environmental nuts, pure commies and socialists, etc., etc. Doing their bidding would have the same effect: the complete looting and devastation of the United States.
For Obama&Co. it can’t happen to soon.
Just ask Brazil.
Well, i got my eye on one a them good green jobs....comin up in the future, just around the corner.
so i hope this flirtation with a carbon based economy which has brought untold wealth and prosperity to a goodly portion planet earth soon loses it’s lustre......i think my future employment entails painting all the roofs in town white....hell it pays 10 bucks an hour to.....save my job..forgo oil....im headin for ‘get rich quick city’...
i release the balance of my time....
Dont get too upset, odumbo lies and changes his positions daily.
This, the FCC threatening to regulate news content and other moves to the left will help create the illusion of compromise when the time comes to pass new legislation.
Obama is trying to reposition the ideological center.
Republicans want to expand oil drilling. Obama originally said he wanted allow some offshore drilling. If he now bans all new drilling, it will appear to be a compromise when he moves back toward his original position. But in order to meet him “half way” Republicans will have to allow the banning of some offshore drilling. Closer to Obama’s original position.
“Closer to Obamas original position. “
His only position should be sitting in the defendant’s seat
in a trial for crimes against the United States.
