Southern Style: Immigrants Come Bearing Gifts

ATLANTA—Jessica Colotl is a reluctant poster girl for the Dream Act. Her parents brought her to the United States from Mexico illegally when she was 10 years old. She stayed out of trouble, kept her head down, made good grades, and enrolled in college. But she did not keep her head down quite far enough. Colotl was arrested on campus at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Ga., and sent to an out of state illegal immigrant detention facility to be deported. She had been driving without a license, which as an illegal immigrant, she had no way of obtaining. As an illegal immigrant, she had no reasonable way to become legal.

The American Dream Act, HR 1751, and the Senate Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act would give those who came to America illegally as children a path to becoming citizens. It would apply to people who came to the United States under the age of 16, stayed here five or more years, have “good moral character,” and graduated from high school. Such people could earn the chance to become citizens by giving two years of military service or completing two years of college

How do you wink at an illegal crossing the border?

Under the DREAM act, not only is she given a path to citizenship, but so is her immediate family, and who knows what the hispanics consider an immediate family. Accord to some news reports, the DREAM act will cost taxpayers 6.5 Billion $. I guess the Progressives think more hispanic votes are more important than how much more debt they lay on the average American. I wonder if that includes all the social services our new citizens will qualify for.

At some point during her encounters with campus police she supposedly presented a Mexican driver's license and an expired Mexican passport. My question is did she really go out of the country to get that license, was it fake, or was it issued by a Mexican consulate?

Another thing about this story is that is keeps changing ever time it is reported.

Her last name isn’t even Spanish. It means “scorpion” in Nahuatl, an indigenous language in Mexico.

Chain migration solves nothing.

Go to any traffic court house in metro Atlanta, Gwinnet/Cobb Cty. Especially, I would say 80% Illegals, driving without a license, although they have the Mexican one, and no Insurance.

I took my son for a permit, the guy in front of me was an illegal wanting a license he went to check in, could not speak english and had not one piece of paper, so they of course said no, so I watched him leave the DMV and drive off.

An immediate cost to the DREAM Act is free university tuition. Of course, the amnesty recipients will demand financial aid. They will jump in the line ahead of others for financial aid because the parents will undoubtedly claim poverty. They also demand preferential admission. University administrators will jump at the chance to increase their ethnic bean counts. The amnesty recipients may also demand other special services such as special dorms, clubs, advisors, academic programs, and so on.

Boo hoo. Take the danged bus. That's what I did for years, not because I was illegal, but because I couldn't afford a car. And "no reasonable way to become legal"? What they mean is, no way that is easy, fast or convenient enough for this little princess.

What is the definition of “child” in Stinky Reid’s latest version of his Dream Voter Act? The last one listed a “child” as anyone being under the age of 38 years old.

That part of the story is absolutely correct.....she has no means to become legal. Her biggest mistake in life was to hold on to her momma's hand as they crossed the border together when she was ten....if you want to punish her for that for the rest of her life I understand.

Agreed 100%. This person commits a series of crimes for which a legal citizen would be incarcerated upon conviction and we’re supposed to subsidize her tuition? If anything her parents should be on the hook for the return trip to Mexico.

So? If she was in most other countries she would have been shot on sight. She is lucky we are giving her a free ride home.

Yeah, it is all the fault of you xenophobic conservatives! After all, the Constitution (and any other laws) are "Living Documents", subject to reinterpretation to serve the "Greater Good".....

I have no sympathy for any illegal immigrant no matter what the situation. Illegal immigration is literally destroying our nation and if you want to stop that then we can't feel sorry for any of these criminals. I'm sick of these illegals calling people like me racist while it's their own corrupt government that is to blame for what their nation has become. We can stop illegal immigration cold if we really want, and I am sick and tired of hearing the ridiculous myth that we can't.

She can go home to Mexico and apply like anyone else.

If I steal your car and give it to my son (and he doesn’t know it is stolen), he doesn’t get to keep it if it is found to be stolen years later.

To paraphrase you “Is it fair to take his car when his only crime was to take the keys dad gave him”?

You story made me laugh by the way. I don’t give a rats a$$ about any on the “blood-sucking ticks” and want them all the hell out of the country.

Sure it does. Chain migration solves the Democrats’ dilemma of how to change the demography of this country into something more favorable to them, and less favorable to Republicans.

Interesting. Many photos of her on the internet and she looks 100% indigenous. No lower than 85%. Why is America supposed to accommodate all the unhappy Indians of Mexico and Central America?
