“(the continuing resolution was passed) the actual FY 2011 budget is not part of that bargain, and there is no way it will get done in 2 weeks.”
What the ?!?!?!
They STILL haven’t passed the budget and dont even plan to?!? Yeah, that’s the biggest obscenity of all. On the plus side, a more Republican congress can start the cuts in FY2011 in Jan .. if they have the cohones to do it.
I hope and pray your pessimism is incorrect, but I wont argue the point. RINOs and Dems are a confederacy of dunces, you never can predict what blundering folly will result.
“Waste a week in bad faith (as Reid always does). Push them to the brink of Xmas and then compromise, leaving no time for the lame-duck agenda that needs to wait for the new Congress the People just elected.”
Brilliant, smart, cold-blooded and politically savvy. Everything our Republican leadership is not.
Paging Senator Machiavelli, pick up the white courtesy phone ...
/bingo!
Promise them anything, but give them the Conservative agenda come January.
Is there some secret person who is going to sign this new Conservative agenda that I haven't heard about?
That sounds like continuing the same kind of mistake we have been making for decades.
1. College is not the solution, we have plenty of college graduates who cannot make a living. The average bachelor’s degree (with exceptions of course) is now worth maybe what an eighth grade education was worth sixty years ago in the job market.
2. Churning out a bunch of online degree holders would only lower the already flattened value of a degree. Someone would no doubt figure out a good way to cheat so as to get the money without actually learning anything (if there was indeed anything valuable to be learned in the first place).
3. Poor farm is a term from the past, it wouldn’t necessarily have to be a farm environment although a farm would be an ideal place for people to learn things like carpentry, animal husbandry, welding and some other trades that might actually offer some opportunity to earn money even if it is imputed income rather than actual cash. Our ancestors used to live mainly on imputed income rather than cash.
4. Giving people relatively large cash incomes creates all kinds of problems. I think we need to offer a barracks type of bare bones habitat where a person is guaranteed the very minimum needed for survival in return for doing whatever they are able to do to contribute while learning to do more. This will eliminate the complaint that things are being made “too easy”, very few would choose to remain in such a situation any longer than necessary for them to learn to support themselves on their own. If someone is content in that environment fine as long as they contribute their efforts to support it. There would be very minimal cash income available to anyone so long as they lived there, not much more than pocket change, those who managed to earn a considerable amount of money on an outside job would not be allowed to spend much of it until they leave and go out on their own when their earnings would be taken from an escrow account and given to them.
I am just trying to think of something that might work again as it once did and would not be nearly as expensive as handing out food “stamp” cards and monthly checks.
Liberals will scream about how heartless all that would be but it is basically what I encountered when I entered the military, at least for the first nine weeks anyway.
Maybe they’ll still be able to laugh with 100 calories a day.
“For the life of me; I do not understand why anyone born and raised in this country would want to sabotage it?”
Spoiled overgrown children who once hated their parents and now their country for not giving them everything they want. They are continuously envious of everyone who has more and they let their inner rage out on anyone smaller than them.
Does that help you understand?
“the word bipartisan means that some larger than usual deception is being carried out.”
“If the govt can create the conditions for producing high-paying jobs, people will take the high paying jobs over the welfare.”
If only the govt. would just stay out of the way.
And if only the Obama govt. WANTED high-paying jobs. They would rather have as many dependent on govt. as possible.
“We must keep their proverbial feet to the fire!”
Yes, anybody who has a Republican legislator, keep calling them to get them to do the right thing.
