It isn’t a matter of people TAKING a job, but, one being offered. Do you realize how many applications there are for every job posted?

I suggest people refrain from being judgmental until they have walked a mile in someone else’s shoes who has lost his/her job under this job-killing administration.

This isn’t such a bad deal. The Republicans know that by extending the tax cuts it will ultimately help the economy. They are also aware that jobs aren’t plentiful, so, what’s the big deal about a compromise on these issues?

I see none!

It might also be noted that we don’t have the votes to override a veto. Absent a deal, that “signed by Premier Hussein” part ain’t gonna happen.

People who think taking the House is going to give us the reins, are going to be disapointed. All we’ll be able to do for the next two years is keep O from imposing his policies on us.

I keep seeing this claim.

This administration is somehow responsible for job loss. Now let me state I’m in no way trying to make excuses for Obama - who I think is a marxist, and deliberately sabotaging our national security.

But the GOP is far from blameless.

Republicans have been exporting our jobs and factories for a couple decades. And now suddenly it’s Obama who wrecked things?

Obama’s policies are making the deterioration accelerate, but it is “free trade” REPUBLICANS who have been exporting our jobs.

We are committing national suicide, by the incredibly stupid “free trade” de-industrial policies OUR SIDE has been advocating for the last two decades.

Democrats are certainly not helping. But let’s not try to blame them for “free trade”.

That’s our fault.

Until we as those who understand the significance of national security change that methodical destruction of our manufacturing and technology, things will continue to get worse.

Time to stop pretending the Emperor is wearing a fancy suit.

He’s not. He’s naked as a jaybird. And “free trade” is the very problem itself.

We’re doing this to ourselves.

“Think of the connotations of that. Really we need to revive our industries or there won’t ever be enough jobs.”

We also have to revive our work force! Many of the people who lost their jobs were in the financial service sector. We’re not talking about apple pickers. These were high paying middle class jobs that required at least a college degree. They will now have to prepare for a different kind of job but they aren’t sure which sector Obama will try to destroy next.

“My husband has a master’s degree, but he took a job at Wal-Mart for two years which didn’t pay much more than minimum wage. Why would anyone do that if they can receive unemployment and not have to pay for transportation, and other costs, while collecting the same amount staying home?”

If the govt can create the conditions for producing high-paying jobs, people will take the high paying jobs over the welfare.

Sounds great in theory but when you’ve got huge numbers of unemployed across the whole spectrum of skills and education it doesn’t work because there’s simply not enough hiring and the “take some job” option doesn’t work either because likely those jobs are already filled by illegals - like the fast food jobs of last resort so often mentioned/joked about.

We would be #1 in manufacturing/technology if our culture and govt pushed math and science over soccer and American Idol. Savings and investment over a tax/welfare policy that rewards debt and consumption. Long term wide-scale infrastructure instead of shovel-ready bike paths and fixing potholes.

Yup.

Our liberal ministry of truth, has placed the cult of leftist dogma above our national interest - that’s why every night on the news you hear not about America, but about Washington.

Our “elite” could care less if our nation collapses. They only care about relentlessly generating propaganda.

The “elite” on the left, care only about advancing union power over our institutions.

The “elite” on the right, only ever figures ways to send more of our jobs to China. Or give those they can’t send to China, to illegal aliens.

Both “elites” care nothing about America.

Only themselves.

According to Obama we will have to get used to high unemployment.

None of this is accidental or part of a natural process, the whole world is being manipulated.

WHAT’S THE RUSH? Why give such such an easy deal this week, and permit the RINOs to run wild on DREAM amnesty, START and DADT? Waste a week in bad faith (as Reid always does). Push them to the brink of Xmas and then compromise, leaving no time for the lame-duck agenda that needs to wait for the new Congress the People just elected.

Another question...if the GOP caucus just went home, leaving say DeMint or Coburn there to fillibuster, would the lame duck bills fail cloture lacking 60 votes? Or would the entire caucus need to remain present?

Looks like a win for the GOP to me.
The BIG deal is extending the Bush tax cuts to save the economy. The rest is garnish and fluffing to make the Democrats save face.

This deal is nothing to do with DREAM Act, DREAM Act is going down, they dont have the votes.

Now, what the GOP Senators should do is once the tax cut and budget votes are held, yawn and say they are too tired to go on, Merry Christmas and force the lame ducks to go home.

“do you really think that the dems give a damn one way or another about a passing a budget? “

The GOP Senators all 42 of em said NO cloture votes on anything else until the budget is done. So... the GOP is making the Dems give a damn. I dont see the lame duck session doing anything but the budget and taxes. All the other items are in limbo and time is running out.

Um, 7 million jobs were lost IN THE LAST 4 YEARS.

No, we havent been ‘exporting jobs’ for decades, there have been structural changes in our economy, but the massive job loss has been since 2007, after the Democrats took control of Congress.

GIGO.

A question and a comment:

1. I did not see in the article how the extension of unemployment benefits would be paid for. It better be out of stimulus money.

2. I think the GOP needs to go for more than two years and as indicated above pay for the unemployment benefits out of stimulus money.

If all they can get are two years extension of the tax cut and bail on everything else, GOP Senators need to filibuster until the new Congress.

We'll see if they have the votes for cloture or not. I remember the cloture vote for Obamacare very well and we all know how that turned out.

The GOP said no cloture votes on anything else until the Tax Cut Extensions are voted upon and a continuing resolution was passed (the continuing resolution was passed), but the actual FY 2011 budget is not part of that bargain, and there is no way it will get done in 2 weeks.

So, if the tax cut extension is passed this week, say hello to the repeal of DADT and more than likely the DREAM act, IMO. I'm sure there are other obscenities that will be jammed through as fast as possible in the next 2 weeks as the RINO’s are still as weak and useless as ever.
