UPDATE: Stephen Miller, Republican Press Secretary to the Senate Judiciary Committee, responds to this story: "If passed, the DREAM Act would be one of the most significant changes to our immigration laws in years. It would grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens and seriously compromise efforts to secure the border...[the bill provides] amnesty and safe harbor for a number of criminal aliens, such as those who have been convicted of DUI's; authorizing millions of new workers in the midst of a severe recession; and putting those here illegally ahead of those playing by the rules and waiting patiently in line."

There is no link to this story, or a poll. The link to CBS goes to a YouTube video about TSA.

It is odd.
I voted no which was behind those voting yes by a very wide margin, BUT the majority of comments were vehemently against the Dream Act.

Social Security Administration has been allowing these people to transfer their illegal earnings under stolen social security numbers to their own SSNs once they changed their illegal alien status to lawful alien status with work authorization on the condition they were not convicted by our judicial system. Social Security itself doesn't report or convict it even when the former illegal conduct (using a stolen SSN) is brought to SSA's attention.

- No -- it's amnesty for people who are breaking the law. 42%

I think we should give it a try since immigration "reform" supporters are all so civil.

Today at 11 a.m. Latino leaders will join on Capitol Hill to oppose passage of the controversial measure, the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act of 2010 (DREAM Act). The DREAM Act would provide certain minors who are illegal immigrants a path to citizenship if they attend college for two years or join the military. There are an estimated 12-20 million illegal immigrants residing in the United States. Proponents and Democratic leaders have pushed hard for the bill’s passage and a House vote is expected later this week.
According to Carmen Morales, Latino activist and a leader of the coalition, “Latino leaders are gathered today in solidarity. Â We are here to send a strong message to Congress that as Latinos, we stand staunchly opposed to any measure that puts Americans at a disadvantage and rewards illegal behavior.”

Close the border. Seal it up. Until that is done, no further discussion.
