BIG SIS INVADES WAL-MART: 'IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING'

WASHINGTON -- Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano today announced the expansion of the Department’s national “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign to hundreds of Walmart stores across the country—launching a new partnership between DHS and Walmart to help the American public play an active role in ensuring the safety and security of our nation.

“Homeland security starts with hometown security, and each of us plays a critical role in keeping our country and communities safe,” said Secretary Napolitano. “I applaud Walmart for joining the ‘If You See Something, Say Something’ campaign. This partnership will help millions of shoppers across the nation identify and report indicators of terrorism, crime and other threats to law enforcement authorities.”

The “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign—originally implemented by New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority and funded, in part, by $13 million from DHS’ Transit Security Grant Program—is a simple and effective program to engage the public and key frontline employees to identify and report indicators of terrorism, crime and other threats to the proper transportation and law enforcement authorities.

While it scary that government will be depending on Wal-Mart shoppers to catch terrorists....

.... they will probably catch more than the TSA

I’ve been doing this for over a year and a half with my newsblog. Anytime I see a local politician acting hinky or doing things extra-legal, I notify the local DA, the Atty General, the State Inspector General, the Feds, or the Legislative Auditor.

After a while, it begins to stick.

Secretary Janet Napolitano today announced the expansion of the Department’s national “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign to hundreds of Walmart stores across the country

But if you see abuse by the TSA doing screening at the nation's airports and dare to complain, report or videotape it, YOU become a "domestic extremist" and you too may end up on Janet Napolitano's list.

Just a thought, if you report a minority or someone incensed that you reported THEM, what liability will you have for doing that? Remember the people who got sued for reporting the muslims on the airplane? Did the government protect them from litigation? Just asking.

Exactly! Can we turn suspected illegals in?

Oh, wait, we can’t. Just ask Arizona.

This is a two-edged sword.

It has been widely used by totalitarian governments
as an obtrusive control system.

While anyone would expect a good American to report OBVIOUS
threats, the concept soon becomes excessive, and you may be
reported and detained for saying bad things about DEAR LEADER.

If You See Something, Say Something

This sort of policy made sense when we were looking for--potential Muslim terrorists.

For instance, after 9/11 people were on the lookout for suspicious bags left in the waiting room at Penn Station, or on a subway platform, with no apparent owner with them. If everyone reports suspicious characters who might blow up a plane or a train, you are a lot safer.

The problem with Big Sis is that she won't specifiy what to look for. "Something"? What does that mean?

Most likely this creep means a legitimate gun carrier who walks into Walmart with his holster showing. Or someone who looks like a militia member. Or a Vet. Or a Christian. Or who knows what? Anything but a Muslim terrorist, I presume.

Let me see. At Walmart I see welfare recipients buying too much food, (Hey Michelle, cut benefits, they’re all fat already). I also see possible illegal aliens. Hmmm. Lets all call and overwhelm their reporting system.

So now I can look forward to being selectively sexually molested in Wal-Mart. Good grief, when will the madness stop?

Personally, I think Wal-Mart believes this ploy will get The Marxit Onada’s gov’t off its back. That may or may not be true or happen. But, I’m offended by Wal-Mart’s bring politics into its stores. Good Bye Wal-Mart.

Ah, this is an unintended consequence I can sign on to. Should be fun. As far as I’m concerned illegals, by definition, are terrorists. When they bring their mobs to demonstraste in our streets they are threatening us with violence. That’s terrorism by anybody’s definition.
