I’m from Pittsburgh. I agreed with Ed Rendell on one thing and one thing only ... Philly cheesesteaks are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than this, this thing Primanti’s manufactures from the worst parts of hell. Primanti’s sells lots of other great food ... I just haven’t a clue as to how these things became so popular ... and I will eat anything :-P .
My favorite, however, is an out-of-towner asking them to hold a topping on this thing ... they’ll probably give you double the amount on the sandwich if you make a mistake like that. Or, better yet, try ordering your fries on the side instead of on the stack :-)! I can assure you that the server will have fun with you.
I tell ya what, A fried egg on there with the yolk all oozing just sets one of them off for me.

Primantis is featured so much on Food Net and Travel, that I hear it’s getting its own network.

10 years ago nobody knew what I was talking about.
Primanti's was pretty much finished when a couple of guys from Florida bailed it out. Sure it's now a chain but it's lost the grease that used to drip from the paper bags when you got take out.
That was when it was good.
Oh and dahtahn there was The Wheel cafe....kind of a bucket of blood place. Had pictures of all the "classic" strippers - like Honeysuckle Divine - on the wall.
Those old joints with the grills that have been seasoned for 50 years rock.
This buisness has been featured on the travel channel and on the Food Network many times.

I remember the Wheel Cafe... was replaced by the Chartroom... then I don’t know what. I enjoyed the Wheel... it had survived since the days of Burlesque only to fade away in the 80s....
YES! I should have used burlesque instead of strippers! There is QUITE a difference. The gal I mentioned was a stripper/...well you know. The pics on the wall at the Wheel were mostly Burlesque Entertainers.
The Wheel was so popular even my wife - who is VERY reserved - used to go to The Wheel with her co-workers in trust securities at the then main PNC building at 5th and Wood. They'd get off work and all go there to relax. It was a nice crowd!
The Wheel was also open at 4 or 5 AM for breakfast and sometimes she and I would stop before she had to go to work.
IIRC it was 2 eggs, 2pcs bacon or sausage, pgh homefries, 2 pcs toast and coffee/tea/milk for $1.00! They cooked them on a grill near the front window.
At that time they catered to overnight workers who were heading home.
There are still a few places like that near me in Crafton. Carnegie and such but they are shadows of their former selves.
I often go to Manny's or Alexion's in Rook Station, Carnegie and they aren't bad but not like the old days!
FWIW there are still acouple of "buckets of blood" in Carnegie but the people who go there are NOT the kind you want to hang with. (I do get news story leads/info there though, hehehehe!)
