New Mexico regulators have decided to approve an environmental group's proposal for capping greenhouse gas emissions statewide.

The Environmental Improvement Board voted 4-1 during a meeting Monday in Santa Fe.

The petition from New Energy Economy forces polluters to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 3 percent per year from 2010 levels. It would become effective in 2013.

Let's see: 3% per year for ten years is 30%. Won't take long to drive all industry in the state out of business, especially the cash cow that is the oil and gas industry.

I suspect the new Martinez administration will find a way to overturn this amongst much whining and gnashing of teeth by the environutters in Santa Fe. Either that or the legislature will take action. A couple of weeks ago Martinez said they would explore all options to nullify the action.

All of our past stupid and corrupt Governors are turning over in their graves over this P.o.S Richardson.

I can see where he might have conned enough people into voting for him for his first term, but that they elected him a second time makes me fear that all too many of my fellow citizens (plus the not-citizens who vote nonetheless) are terminally stupid.

What is it with Santa Fe, NM. It seems that there has to be at least one city in each conservative state which has liberal nutjobs (who are often well-off, as I understand it).

In your state, it’s Santa Fe. In Wyoming, it’s Jackson (bung)Hole. In Texas, it’s Austin. I’m sure wine sales are booming in those burgs, also.
