WikiLeaks to keep releasing cables despite Assange arrest
Guardian ^ | December 7, 2010 | Robert Booth

WikiLeaks will continue releasing the leaked US embassy cables in spite of the arrest this morning of its founder, Julian Assange, over allegations in Sweden of sexual offences.

The whistleblowers' website has made arrangements to continue publishing the classified documents, the airing of which has embarrassed the US government. The leaked cables have provided a daily flow of revelations about the superpower's involvement in the most sensitive issues around the world, including those affecting Iran, Afghanistan and China.

The decision to press on will help allay fears among Assange's supporters that his arrest would hobble the organisation's work.

Cyber leakers now have a place to go Web site says goal is better government
Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The (GA) - Monday, January 22, 2007
Author: REBECCA CARR ; Cox Washington Bureau
Washington — Secretive governments may have met their nemesis.

A new online effort called Wikileaks seeks not only to archive hot tips and documents that reveal government corruption and questionable policies, but also to encourage them.

Asserting that leaking government information is the “most cost-effective means of promoting good government” around the world, Wikileaks is seeking any and all leaks.

Taking a page from the Wikipedia online encyclopedia, an information respository and exchange maintained by its users, Wikileaks promises to be a vehicle for “untraceable mass document leaking and analysis,” according to its Web site. The focus is on releasing information in places not known for heralding the public’s right to know: China, Russia, Africa and the Middle East.

“But we also expect to be of assistance to those in the West who wish to reveal unethical behavior of their own governments and corporations,” the site states.

The need for a site where people can post information about government corruption without fear of reprisal is apparent, said Sue Dreyfus, an advisory board member. The site has not yet listed other board members, but it says it was founded and partly funded by dissidents, mathematicians and technologists across the globe.

He should have threatened to release Obama’s birth certificate.

That he has not, suggests Team Obama REMOVED it
before the information was sent with treason to WikiLeaks.

I don't know about this arrest. Something tells me that what is in the forefront is only a misdirection and that something else is happening under the radar.

Let's face it; if they wanted to get rid of Assange or anyone else they have ways to do it.

Actually according to the old Soviet playbook this is exactly how they would do it. You don't accuse a dissident of treason since it is hard to prove, the trial can be embarrassing to the state and you create a martyr. You accuse the dissident of rape or child molestation. Simple he said, she said. State isn't involved so can be embarrassed. The dissident, and everything they did prior to the arrest is discredited. And most importantly they are not a "Political" prisoner that some other country can make a fuss about. They are just another rapist sitting in jail.

This is exactly what I've been trying to tell everyone (including Sarah Palin) that thinks that the US (or someone) should do something about/to Assange.

The Wikileaks organization has taken many precautions to assure they can't be silenced. Even if you knew every person directly involved with Wikileaks, there's a "deadman switch" to provide the AES key to decrypt an archive that has been downloaded by thousands of people.

I think you are right. If there are no more WikiLeaks damaging to BO and there are no efforts by Holder to prosecute Assange in the US, then we will know BO made a deal with Assange to buy his silence about BO’s involvement in WikiLeaks.

'WikiLeaks to keep releasing cables despite Assange arrest'

I'm tied of this nonsense. This guy has committed espionage and overtly aided and abetted our enemies during a time of war. He needs to be capped(1) - period, end, stop!

(1) C'mon CIA, 'do the things you do', dammit.

Oops, the spell check demon got me.
Addendum required to previous post...
"I'm tied of this nonsense." should be: "I'm tired of this nonsense."

~~~ end of addendum~~~
Assange is an anarchist, but he isn't an idiot. He ALWAYS intended to keep the really juicy stuff as his insurance. Remember, the latest are State Department documents... I suspect there are a couple passport records that are locked in his encrypted "insurance" policy. If so, the NSA already knows what is there and "we, da american pipple" will never see it.
They should try anyone who leaks to WikiLeaks, if convicted, execute them post haste. Right now no-one fears a treason charge as few have been charged, let alone convicted.
We need to start dealing with traitors more harshly. THis Bradley Amnning homo needs to be tried for treason in a military tribunal and executed by firing squad.
I agree that anyone in a position of trust that leaks US classified information to Wikileaks or anyone else should be prosecuted.
I'm not convinced that this meets the definition of treason, but the large quantity of material multiplied by the penalty for each item will mean a life sentence for whoever did it.
Even if Assange were to be burnt at the stake at high noon in front of every television camera on the planet, there’s no way to stuff this crap back in the goose.
Practically every hacker in the world is having screaming mind-blowing orgasms over the hysterics this is causing. The copycats are going to be out in force.
I really have no idea how this is going to play out.
