South Floridians woke up Tuesday morning to temperatures hovering around the very low 40s that sometimes felt like the mid-30s because of the wind chill factor.

In Fort Lauderdale, a low temperature record of 42 degrees for Dec. 7 that had been in place for 169 years was broken, said Dan Gregoria, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Miami.

"It was at 7:24 a.m. when the temperature reached 40 degrees," Gregoria said.

Is it the December 7th date? (1941)

I was born and raised in lauderdale and I can remember temperatures lower than that.

I can also remember at least once when it snowed!

It’s really cold down here. I live on the outskirts of Tampa and we have a prediction for 29. Now that’s really quite cold.

I’ve been covering my gardenia. Hope it gets through.

If you have any mulch or grass clippings, put them under the cover for the night as well. They’ll add another 5 degrees

Clearly a result of global warming and especially the policies of George Bush. (sarcasm)

Really 90 degrees? I get uncomfortably warm at about 72.

69 or 70 is ideal for me.

7 degrees here in central Illinois this morning.

He's not called plinyelder without reason, probably older than 169 years.

Now it’s your turn smart guy.

Answer the question please.

WHY is Dec. 7th “Cold Record” special besides being Pearl Harbor Day?
