Israel and the United States need to learn how they do things in Russia, because the way they do things in Russia usually works.

Somalia pirates' clash with Russian navy reveals a gap in rule of law

Theoretically, the [Russian] captain was supposed to hand the detainees and the evidence over to regional police. Not wanting to involve himself in legal wrangling, however, he decided to "release" the pirates instead. And thus they were "set free" in a tiny inflatable raft, with no navigation equipment, 350 miles off the coast of Yemen. The raft has disappeared. In the 21st century, this is how pirates walk the plank.

That’s good but would be hilarious if they included a jug of vinegar to quench their thirst.

Bad Russians! /s

like the way they handled the economy in the Soviet Union, their wars in Afghanistan and Chechnya, their approach to Iran and China...oh wait.

Some things ~ not all things (hence the hesitation with the word "usually").

They've had the system down for dealing with Moslems for several centuries. When it comes to Chechnya it was Joe Stalin, a Georgian, who made the mistake of failing to eradicate the Checnyans.

Stalin was never too successful with humane treatment. Kind of a foreign thing with that guy.

Yes, things would be so much better if we just ignored the rule of law and judicial restraints and executed summary justice on everyone we deemed bad like Russia. /s

The right answer is to fix the laws and the judicial process. The wrong answer is "Not wanting to involve himself in legal wrangling" he murdered the pirates by setting them free in conditions where they were unlikely to survive.

I would suggest that combining the phrase “judicial process” with the word “pirates” is the wrong answer, but that’s just me, I guess.

Despite all the nasty things that go on in Russian society, they are definitely smarter than most of our population. That includes our childish politicians.

The interesting thing about this is that those who impose political correctness on us are the ones who are trying to make us like the USSR. Once they gain power PC goes out the window.

Were an American ship to have done that the cries of racism and the multiple lawsuits would be coming from these same people. What is sauce for the goose is poison for the gander.

Heard they left their hands tied behind their backs for ‘safety’ reasons. They didn’t want the pirates injuring their arms trying to paddle the raft also saved any sharks from ingesting dangerous foreign bodies. Those Russian’s should get world citizen of the year!

It has become the term for any such instant justice since the days of Morant.
