2,000-year-old Holy Thorn Tree of Glastonbury is cut down
Vandals have destroyed one of the most celebrated Christian pilgrimage sites in Britain and chopped down a tree said to have sprouted from the staff of Joseph of Arimathea 2,000 years ago.
The Holy Thorn Tree of Glastonbury, Somerset, is visited by thousands every year to pay homage and leave tokens of worship. Those visiting today were moved to tears on finding the tree cut to a stump.
The sacred tree is unique in that it blossoms twice a year - at Christmas and Easter - and sprigs taken from the thorn are sent to The Queen each year for the festive table.

We live amongst so many deprived, depraved evil people anymore it’s sickening, however Jesus warned us this would happen in the *last Days* and he has already won this battle....We just have to endure it for a short time without loosing our sanity....

It is also I believe a site considered sacred to modern Pagans. So this may have not been an anti Christian act.
Also, plant the cuttings somewhere on private property within sight every mosque in Britain.

I don’t think they were idolizing the tree, it is just a symbol of faith, it is like vandalizing Crosses at Churches or cutting the head off of a Statue of Mary..It is mean, it is evil, it is dis-respectful and it is unlawful.
The comments at the original article are interesting. One poster explicitly blames a local real estate developer for the destruction. If so, this is a highly charged conflict of a different kind.

England has been cut off from the heart of Christianity since the time of Henry VIII.
I saw the tree when I was there. At least, they should be able to make grafts of it. How sad.
I went to the tree this morning, i am so shocked! It is a special Holy tree not just for christinaity but for pagans and all faiths. We now know who did it and he revenged the whole town because he wanted to build flats and we opposed the destruction of the hill where the tree grows. From the commetns section it looks like it wasn’t who you all think it was but a developer who was p’oed that he couldn’t plow the hill to build flats.It also looks like the trunk is still in the ground so with good care which I’m sure the town will get it the tree could survive and bloom again.Watch for new sprig to spout soon to give the world hope.

Well, I see that we still have a few of the descendants of Oliver Cromwell here in the forum. I wish they’d save more of their energy for fighting against the liberal atheists and Communists and Muslims who are the real threat to Christianity and our western civilization.
I’m very sorry to hear about this. Glastonbury has always been famous as a Grail site. And for its connections with the ancient Arthurian stories.
At least they are salvaging the cuttings, as they have done before. And it’s good to know that so many of the villagers still feel strongly about preserving their traditions.
Yet some PC idiot on another board over Easter weekend told me “he sees ‘discrimination daily’ against Muslims . . . but has never seen it against Christianity”

That is a cruel deal.
Even if you are not a Christian,
Even if you are not amazed that a plant blooms on Christmas and Easter,
Even if you don’t believe that it came from Joseph’s staff,
You should still respect for a tree that survived for 2000 YEARS! To ruin something that brought so much joy to people for 20 centuries is something that is hard to imagine.
