I’ve actually seen libs say that Orwell’s 1984 applied equally well to capitalism in the US. In fact, the 60th anniversary edition includes an essay to that effect by Erich Fromm...

How could you not? He’s Hollywood; the default mode is “bimbo/idiot/communist/atheist”. You have to start with that premise. A few fall to the right of that, but it’s not the norm.
