With Dream Act shelved, immigrants look to 2012
Washington Post ^ | December 11, 2010 | LAURA WIDES-MUNOZ

MIAMI -- The illegal immigrants who more than a decade ago were just teens hoping to forge a legal path to citizenship are vowing to make the Dream Act a campaign issue come 2012, even though they'll likely be too old to benefit if the law ever passes.

The measure that passed in the House on Wednesday is unlikely go anywhere in the Senate, and the House is unlikely to revisit the issue once the new Republican leadership takes over.

Groups like The National Council of La Raza and other Hispanic and immigrant advocacy groups know the prospects for comprehensive immigration reform are dim for the time being. So they've turned their attention to a measure that they believe will spark more sympathy from most Americans, bringing with them a coalition of labor groups, the Conference of Catholic Bishops and even Defense Secretary Robert Gates. And come 2012, advocates say, Spanish-language media will be filled with ads slamming lawmakers who voted against the Dream Act.

Will this ever go away ? Not sure whom La Raza will target to gain sympathy from most Americans, when more Americans are against the Dream Act, then for it. Here we go again with the Catholic Bishops

How many times has this failed now? It’s like a recurring nightmare. It’ll be back again.

If these people would look for their dreamland they need look no further than the country of their ideals Mexico or further south. /sarcasm. What they are really after is what has been the dream of men since 1776.

everyone in “La Raza” should move to Mexico, because they DON’T belong in the USA

“La Raza” — what an un-American, anti-American, racist expression

not that “Hispanics” are a race at all, but if there’s going to be an organization called “La Raza” it needs to be exposed and discredited at every turn

As long as the border is undefended, we will never hear the end of this illegal-si si puede crap.

I DREAM of placing landmines on the border, but it’s just a ‘DREAM’...

So the DREAM act is once again dead??!! Uh huh. How many times was Dracula killed only to be resurrected. The left will NEVER give up on creating a voting bloc some 40 million strong out of Mexicans. So don’t for one moment believe it is “off the table” for the rest of the lame duck session. Democrats know that amnesty will give them virtual perpetual victory on election day, even without the fraud at which they have become so professional. Limitless, unending political power. And all they have to do is convince a handful of RINO sell-outs to betray the nation as usual. It is an issue that will never go away.

Sorry bout that fellows but there already IS a "legal path to citizenship" and it starts with OBEYING OUR IMMIGRATION LAWS AND NOT ENTERING THE COUNTRY ILLEGALLY!!!

whiny bunch of pukes.

Will this ever go away ?

As long as the illegals are here. If Jan Brewer and company succeed in flusing out the illegals, other states might catch on. It is going to take a state effort to cut off illegals from the guv-mint teat and to vigorously punish employers that hire illegals. With out a means of support the illegals will finally see the welcome mat pulled away and finally finally self-deport. Until then the Dream Act and other amnesty mutations will re-appear.

I bet the Dem leadership wishes that they passed amnesty rather then Obamacare.

Another complete lie perpetuated by the MSM. The DREAM Act nightmare is VERY MUCH ALIVE, and Reid is going to schedule a vote the moment the tax deal passes. Do NOT lower your guard. Keep on your Senators to oppose this amnesty bill.

That cannot be repeated enough. Why should a set of illegal invaders primarily from Mexico be given special consideration over any other law-abiding immigration applicants from the world over?

The amnesty thing is a racist, bigoted, agenda forwarded by a set of self-consumed bigots, including some internal US interests. Like Bloomberg, HP, some corporations, etc.

The European Union is already showing the failure of extra-national, massively centralized governments.

Why should a group called “The Race” expect support from all Americans?

Round up ALL illegals and send them back to from where they came.
If they care to come let them do it legally.

This is from answers.com.

"A foreign national who is unlawfully present in the US is not eligible for permanent residency or citizenship unless they qualify as a refugee or asylee. The person must return to their country of origin and apply for reentry under US immigration laws.

"A foreign national who has been unlawfully present in the US for 12 months or less is barred from applying for entry for 3 years. A foreign national who has been unlawfully present in the US for more than 12 months is barred from applying for entry for 10 years."

So ILLEGAL aliens want this changed and demand legal residency in one fell swoop. Never mind what the immigrants who I (and tens of thousands of others) have sponsored went through.

No sir, it's "What do we want?! Everything! When do we want it? NOW!"

Why not say that if they were children they don't have to return to the home country but they damn well better demonstrate a true understanding of the English language and America -- If the United States of America is not their Number One love.. Get the hell out!

Adults lured here for jobs by specific American entities and can prove it don't have to return to the home country. They should have a good understanding of the English language and America. If the United States of America is not their Number One love by now.. Get the hell out!

Then get in the "back of the line" behind everyone currently in the system for legal residency.

Minimum if any fine, no prison time for document fraud.. but there's catch:

All American citizens must also be forgiven similar document crimes with those in prison released. Is it in our heritage to have double standards? Wot? Oh.. well, yes OJ and yes there are many others . . . .

What say do illegals have in our elections? Voter ID & voter fraud prosecution is the only response.

I’m all for the DREAM Act with one tiny addition.

Everyone who is accepted into the program will have their parents deported immediately for breaking our immigration laws.

No sarcasm - I’m serious

I still can remember my shock, watching the POTUS standing before the cameras, stating that AZ immigration law does not support our ‘values.’ I remain stunned. One of our key values is ‘we are a country of laws, not a country of men.’ To garner more votes for the immoral Democrats, our own POTUS is willing to pimp out any support for the rule of law. His whores include Congress and the unions he has commandeered for his purposes. I used to be the biggest union supporter. I now loathe them all, the UAW, ASFCME, - you name it and they are in it for themselves only. Let’s take back the Senate in 2012 and eliminate unions for government workers. They are holding the country hostage and care not about anyone but themselves. Build a border fence that is tall, tamperproof and electrified. Enough of this crap.
