Wishing all our Jewish troops, veterans, families, allies, friends, and Canteeners
a peaceful and prosperous week.
He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.
May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.
May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.

After our plane landed on the gravel airstrip, Jay and I climbed out and entered the world of Masai Mara in Kenya. A Masai tribesman named Sammy met us and loaded our baggage into a Land Rover. Then we headed toward the camp where we would spend the next 2 days.
Stopping so we could watch the zebras and wildebeests migrating from Masai Mara to Serengeti, Sammy explained that the two massive herds travel together because the zebras have good eyesight but a poor sense of smell, and the wildebeests have bad eyesight but a good sense of smell. By traveling together, both are less vulnerable to predators. This was our first lesson from God’s revelation in creation, which Kenya has in abundance.
Just as God makes animals with different strengths and weaknesses, He makes people the same way. God made us to be dependent not only on Him but also on one another. The apostle Paul elaborated on this idea in his letter to the church in Corinth. As members of the body of Christ, we all have different gifts and abilities (1 Cor. 12:12-31).
The church is healthy only when we work together, look out for each other, and use our strengths to benefit one another.

A Marine's Christmas EveTwas the night before Christmas,
He slept all alone,
In a one bedroom house
Made of plaster & stone.I had come down the chimney,
With presents to give,
And to see just who,
In this home did live.As I looked all about,
A strange sight I did see,
No tinsel, no presents,
Not even a tree.No stocking by the fire,
Just boots filled with sand.
On the wall hung pictures
Of a far distant land.With medals and badges,
Awards of all kind,
A sobering thought,
Soon came to my mind.For this house was different,
Unlike any I'd seen.
This was the home
Of a U.S. Marine.I'd heard stories about them,
I had to see more,
So I walked down the hall,
And pushed open the door.And there he lay sleeping,
Silent, alone,
Curled up on the floor,
In this one-bedroom home.He seemed so gentle,
His face so serene,
Not how I pictured
A U.S. Marine.Was this the hero,
Of whom I had read?
Curled up in his poncho,
A floor for his bed?His head was clean-shaven,
His weathered face tan.
I soon understood,
This was more than a man.I realized the families,
That I saw that night,
Owed their lives to these men,
Who were willing to fight.Soon through the nation,
The children would play,
And grown-ups would celebrate,
On a bright Christmas day.They all enjoyed freedom,
Each month and all year,
Because of Marines,
Like this one lying here.I couldn’t help wonder,
How many were alone,
On a cold Christmas Eve,
In a land far from home.Just the very thought,
Brought a tear to my eye.
I dropped to my knees,
And let out a loud sigh.He must have awakened,
For I heard a rough voice,
"Santa, don't cry,
This life is my choice.I fight for freedom,
I don't ask for more.
My life is my God,
My country, my Corps."With that he rolled over,
Drifted off into sleep,
I couldn't control it,
I started to weep.I watched him for hours,
So silent and still.
I noticed he shivered,
From the cold night's chill.So I took off my jacket,
The one made of red,
And covered this Marine,
From his toes to his head.Then I saw his T-shirt,
Of scarlet and gold,
With an eagle, globe and anchor
Emblazoned so bold.And although it was not mine,
I began to swell with pride,
And for one shining moment,
I was Marine deep inside.I didn't want to leave him,
On this cold, dark night.
This guardian of honor
So willing to fight.But half asleep he rolled over,
And in a voice clean and pure,
Said "Carry on, Santa,
It's Christmas Day. All is secure."One look at my watch,
And I knew he was right,
Merry Christmas my friend,
Semper Fi and goodnight.

Good Sunday Evening, Ladies!
A few inches of snow cover the ground, with a little more to follow. Looks, well, holiday-ish for a bit. Nothing much happening besides movies and a crowd for bingo.
How is everyone?
Like Abraham, we also have a covenant with God; we are asked by God to "walk before Him" loving one another as He has loved us. When we are in covenant with God, we humbly submit ourselves, innocent from self-centered interest, to obey His commands to love our God with all of our being, and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Fulfilling the covenant with God, Abraham received the blessing of familial prosperity. God's desire is to grant prosperity to each of our lives. Are we faithful in our love of God and each other?

"Are we faithful in our love of God and each other?" Of course not! Children of Adam that we are, we can't be. That's pure law.
