Democrats made gains in Calif., but can they fix the Golden State?
Washington Post ^ | Dan Balz

SACRAMENTO - In the Year of the Republicans, California is the great exception. Whatever force hit the rest of the country in November stopped at the California border. Democrats won every statewide office on the ballot. They increased their already hefty majority in the State Assembly and maintain a sizable majority in the Senate. Their congressional delegation remains intact, as well. For Democrats, that is cause for celebration, given the battering they took almost everywhere else. But it is also cause for sober reflection. Are they up to the task of governing?

Sorry, I just read what’s on the page.

I meant no slur or insult to anyone but the infamously execrable WaPo.

It’s not the Mexicans.

Yes it is. Steve Sailer and Vdare have been crunching the numbers and showing this to be the case for almost a decade now.

The fact of the matter is a Republican now needs nearly 3/4 of the white vote to win a state wide California election due to the overwhelming propensity of Mexicans voting Democrat. And it's only getting worse, and yes Texas is next. That's a lot of electoral votes.

Even Asian immigrants are moving into the permanent Democrat camp.

The Democrats are just biding their time. Demographics is destiny.

Don't bother posting to that snide know it all troll.

That clown trashed Meg Whitman here non stop and promoted the brilliant idea of not bothering to vote because Mooonbeam wasn't all that bad.

Ignore him.

I repeat, TX is not, nor will ever be CA. Don’t Mess with Texas.

lol...

"lol" is right. These people must have absolutely no concept of what California politics and life was like into the 60's, before radical demographic shifts took place.

That M. Night guy films movies in my county (Bucks County, Pennsylvania) from time to time. In fact, I took my daughter into Newtown and we stood on the sidewalk and watched him direct Mel Gibson in ‘Signs’ a few years back. It was funny because this was in the Spring and some guys came down the street tossing leaves from big green bags on the sidewalks (and our feet) because in the movie it was supposed to be Fall.

Anyway, Bucks County has to be a better place to film than California.

FRegards,
LH

Democrats controll California....
California is a total disaster.
the Voters are too stupid to see what is going to happen...
California just borrowed 40 billion from the feds to fund Unemployment for the next 6 months?...when they ask for more, and the newly elected republicans will say “NO”...California will stop paying the unemployed...and the riots will start.

it will all be “Bush’s Fault”

What’s happening in California is quite simple.

Imagine using credit cards to pay off other credit cards. At a certain point you’re going to max out and have no more credit.

That’s what happening to California.

The government can increase the tax rate to 100% and it still won’t pay off all of it’s debt.

And thank goodness, California can’t print its own money or it would be even more screwed up, like the Federal government.

What investors and Sacramento want the Federal government comes and bail them out, ie. Cal TARP. But that’s not going to happen.

Soon this house of cards is going to crash, as it will for several other states.

Well sure - they’ve already proven they could get it in a fix - they can do it again and then some.

I understand Brown will have a special election in the spring. He will give voters a choice between two budgets. One with programs cut to the bone (living within our means) the other with tax increases to pay for current and needed programs. How do you think it will come out?

From their point of view, of course they are. For them, "governing" means going to the ATM (a.k.a. taxpayers) and taking money out to spend on fun stuff. As long as there are taxpayers to loot, leftists can continue to "govern".

Tax increases, of course. The unions, and other leftist coalition forces want to destroy home ownership in this state so they will increase property taxes. They want to destroy mobility and will put new gas taxes in place. That is all they know, and they will never cut their own pensions, their own salaries, or other sweetheart deals.

No way will they cut services.

That Brown is putting it to the voters, is also a lot of BS. They already know the outcome and control the ballot box.

You know a good chunk of California voters figure that the Fed will surely come to the rescue for their misdeeds.

The next congress needs to make sure that can’t happen.

The Fed knows if they bail out Cal. there are about 10 other states that will also demand the same treatment, and 40 states behind them. So that won't happen.

California will be forced to come up with a plan to get their fiscal house in order by the Bond market. If nothing changes, the Bond market not issued any new bonds and California will not be able to barrow . So, like Greece, the screws will be forced upon the state, then tightened and but good.

Sacramento needs to produce a two or maybe three year fiscal plan to set things right. There needs to be a pro-business strategy that makes business more competitive with other states, less taxes and less regulation. The democrats will be incapable of the required sea-change, so I think California will be Greece II.

Another interesting fact concerning voter analysis. 40% of democrats voted while only 30% of Republicans. I've yet to see any analysis that really drills down into voter trends.

There is so much irony in your post, I don’t know where to begin. Hollywood-the place that never ceases to trash the character and beliefs of “flyover country”-has to come to your place to do the crud they call their ‘magic’. I guess us folks here on the Left Coast are the real “bitter clingers”-clinging to government and class politics.
