A myth. During the Soviet-Afghan War, Rep. COngressman Dana Rohbacker periodically visited the Muj. During one visit, he and his guides passed close to one of bin Laden’s camps. The Muj with him told him to keep quiet, because if bin Laden’s men found out he was American, they’d kill him. Also, Osama himself in a later interview with Robert Fisk admitted that he never received any American aid whatsoever.
