If it were me I'd stick with multiple backups. Having had a work laptop stolen last March, plus the crash last month (it's still December here), I REALLY value backups!

Though none of this explains how I lost my photos of a very special church event last February/March.

Heh. Reminds me of a little tale...

My wife took some pictures of the kids playing in the snow, some time ago, and couldn't find them on the SD card when she went to download them into the computer. They were just — gone.

Since then, we've got a card reader we use, instead of using the USB cable to transfer the images. Well, about two weeks ago, we had downloaded the images off of a card, but hadn't put it back into the camera; my wife turned the camera on, and saw the indicator saying there were pictures in memory.

Wouldn't you know; they were the "lost" snow pictures. My wife had shot all of them with no card in the camera, so they'd been saved to the camera's built-in memory where they'd been safely kept the whole time.
