Stupid!

Just call it East and West.

No need to make a frickin’ production out of this!

Oh my.

Why not just name the divisions "Douche" and "Bags"?

And in the 2010=2011 BCS, 8 of 11 BigTen teams are playing in a bowl.

So, us BigTen fans can be humiliated 8 times by their lackluster showings!

Why not:

"Not Good Enough For The SEC"

&

"Not Good Enough For The PAC 10"

?

So now that the “not so” Big 12 has only 10 teams, does that mean that it can no longer have a championship game?

I’m a midwesterner and graduate of a Big Ten school with a son attending my alma mater ... and I completely agree with your assessment. Lame and Lamer just about covers it.

If it is possible for a conference to narcissistic, then the Big Ten definitely is.

When's the last time a Big Ten team other than OSU won a National Championship, or even played for the title?

Take Ohio State out of the Big Ten and you have a conference that's on par with the WAC.

Stupidest thing I’ve heard all week.

I could sorrrrta see dividing up by “Older Teams” and “Younger Teams,” but he’s got Ohio State and Michigan in different divisions even though they go wayyyyy back ...

Really he should just say, “Look. We can’t do an ‘East / West’ division-ing because it’d be lopsided in terms of current power. So we’re just going to try to put the biggest RIVALS in OPPOSITE DIVISIONS,” or something.

If the dividing is arbitrary (or meant to produce big rivalry-clashes at the end of the season), SAY SO, but this name is silly.

Heh (from http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/12/big-ten-division-names-legends-and-leaders.html)

* Leaders and Legends are the names of conference rooms at an airport Marriott.

* Nebraska just heard new division names and is trying to see if it can return to Big 12 North.

* Legends and Leaders? Really? What was the second choice — Boring and Also Boring?

* Legends and Leaders. The Big Ten goes into next season with 2 “L”s on its record (sounds about right).

* We are officially the cheesiest conference in NCAA football!!!!!

* What has Indiana football ever done to be categorized as a Leader?

* Unofficially gauging reaction to the #BigTen division names/logos announcement on Twitter: 99% negative, 1% league employees.

* Was ‘X’ and ‘O’ that bad?

* So who will be the first one to write/announce, “Wisconsin, the Leaders leader...” Is it too late for the Big Ten to get its money back?

* I think I’d be happier if the divisions were named ‘Meat’ & ‘Potatoes.’ #bigten

* If Big Ten was looking for a logo that looks like it was designed by Atari, they got it right!

So now Michigan’s fight song will have to be changed to reflect that they’re the “LEGENDS [not Leaders] and best”?

Ludicrous.

Embarrassing. Terrible. A real leader would immediately rescind this stupidity.
