State Rep. Peggy Lehner, R-Kettering, on Monday won the recommendation of a seven-member Republican screening committee to fill the state Senate seat being vacated by Jon Husted.
The recommendation will be presented to the full Republican caucus on Wednesday, said Senate President-elect Tom Niehaus, R-New Richmond. Lehner was recommended over state Rep. Seth Morgan, R-Huber Heights, and three other applicants for the 6th District seat.
We would expect the caucus to support the recommendation, said Niehaus.
Husted was elected secretary of state Nov. 2 and will take that office in January. The official Senate vote on his replacement will come after he resigns, said Niehaus. Only Republicans will vote.
Lehner, a former Kettering City Council member, re-elected to the House in November, would serve out the final two years of Husteds Senate term. If she is selected, the House will have to pick a replacement for her. Morgan does not live in her district.
The 6th Senate district includes much of Montgomery County.

Seth Morgan was running a good campaign for State Auditor with an awesome chance at winning the general. That was until the Ohio GOP made a place for Dewine in the AG slot by forcing David Yost to run against Seth Morgan in the primary.
