Throw a copy of a tattered Constitution on top of the cash and you have a Perfect Picture.

Ya gotta laugh or cry. Personally, I'd rather spit. On him.

And of course, the Mayor is....drum roll, please... Democratic....

No he isn't, but he is/was a democrat, meaning he can still vote.

By the way, aren't all cities RAT powered?

n October, the State Journal-Register in Springfield reported that Davlin owed the federal government nearly $90,000 in unpaid income taxes and liens had been filed against his home. The mayor then blamed the problem on a dispute with the IRS over taxes owed on investments he cashed in to buy the home

With the way the Government entities like the IRS and other bureaucracies behave I no longer necessarily believe what the government tells me about anyone.

Heh. Funny you should mention that. The Simpsons Movie was having a nationwide contest for a "Springfield" in the USA to host the movie premier in 2007. Illinois' bid pointed out that many officials in Springfield, Illinois eerily resembled their TV show counterparts, including the Springfield power plant owner Todd Renfrow looking and sounding like Mr. Burns, the local news anchor (can't remember his name) looking and sounding like Kent Brockman (the reporter on the Simpsons), and Mayor Tim Davlin being a stand-in for "Diamond Joe" Quimby. Springfield, IL came in 2nd place for the contest, losing to Springfield, VT (their submission video just had a fat guy chasing a giant donut. wtf?) The actual TV show Springfield is probably based mostly on Springfield, OR, which would have been very familiar to Matt Groening since it's from the area.

Of course this article doesn't mention Davlin's political affiliation, so that means he was a DemocRAT. I googled it and confirmed that. And The Simpsons' "Diamond Joe" Quimby was a crooked RAT too. Hmmm.

I always thought it was based on Springfield, MA because Mayor Quimby is obviously a take off on a Kennedy.

>> I always thought it was based on Springfield, MA because Mayor Quimby is obviously a take off on a Kennedy. <<

The voice was certainly intended to be a parody of a sleazy Kennedy clan member. They came up with Quimby in 1990, long before Davlin was mayor. It's just that once he took office, he seemed like a perfect match for Quimby in looks and personality. Perhaps life initiating art?

And here's a side-by-side comparison between the real life CEO of the Springfield CWLP company (City Water Light & Power), and Mr. Burns, who runs the Springfield Power plant on The Simpsons:

And real life Springfield High School bears a close resemblence to Bart's Springfield Elementary School...

Mel-O-Cream Donut Factory in Springfield, Illinois is the local equivilent of Lard Lad Donuts Factory on The Simpsons...

Springfield, Illinois is the only Springfield in the USA to have a "Shelbyville" located nearby...

Some of the coincidential similarities are just plain SCARY!

They do understand. You have no right to act as if those left behind have a right to the organs of the deceased. The man is dead. He wanted to die, not become a parts bank for those afraid to meet their Maker.

Hmmm....if things don’t work out for Rahm in Chicago, there’s an opening in the capitol. That’s almost as good.

I agree. Death is no laughing matter, and suicide is devastating to his family.

Please let them have their privacy without the wisecracks. I feel badly for them and yes, him, that he was so desperate that he thought this was his only way out. Chances are, he would’ve been given the opportunity to pay the money back with a slap on the wrist. After all, he was a DEMORAT.

Prayers for his family, especially this close to Christmas.

I don’t care what his leanings were, this thread is ridiculous in it’s vitriol; This is from one who throws it with the best of them.
