Back in 1969, two of us ate for $80 per month. If there’s been 500% inflation, that would be $400 per month for two people. I think two can still live on that.

Maybe it’s not that food prices are astronomical, but that the purchasing power of wages has declined.

Most Americans spent around 14% of their disposable income on food in 1969.

Today its around 10%, about a 20% decrease. There aren’t too many of lifes necessities that have decreased that much.
