Good choice here. At least it made sense.

Yeah, I agree as well. Facebook has made a pretty big impact in the way people stay in touch with one another.

Though I'm not quite sure why it was that Facebook succeeded while Myspace (which had been around for years) just kinda foundered. Does anyone use Myspace anymore?

Why am I looking for the “Like” button after reading your post?

I suspect the “leak” [npi] about Assange was a publicity stunt, and a good one at that - it sure got everyone talking.

Though I'm not quite sure why it was that Facebook succeeded while Myspace (which had been around for years) just kinda foundered.

I'd attribute it to two reasons, one because of Myspace and one because of Facebook.

First, Myspace allowed (and encouraged) aliases, whereas Facebook requires real names in profiles. It's tough to find your friends or your friends to find you when profiles are made up of users like "Sugar_Lady21" and "GymDude411."

Second, Facebook's rollout was gradual - it started college only (college by college), then companies, then high school, then anyone. It created envy among those who were not in the "cool group" of Facebook users, and the ones who were allowed viewed it as an exclusive club. When they were allowed to sign up, they were met with an already-large network of people to interact with. It was a brilliant growth strategy (even if unintended - it was originally meant to manage the growth and their available resources). People soon forgot they even had Myspace profiles.

Every holiday when the kids and I go home my near 60 year old sister asks them why they haven’t “friended” her on Facebook.

They are smart enough to know she’d probably lose her bowels over some of the stuff that gets posted on their facebook pages.

Years ago when MySpace was the rage I found it a great tool to keep track of what my kids were doing and who they were hanging out with.

Very good points. Makes sense.

I use my FB page to tweak all my lib friends! Post stuff slamming the dems, etc. Can be QUITE entertaining at times. I’m sure many of my ‘friends’ have blocked me, just as I block all the people who spend their time building their farms, or posting that they are off to go shopping, etc.

True, but my psychological problem is LinkedIn. Go there and you will completely understand.

The exact same thing happened to me (really) when I joined ONE Bassplayers group on FB which contained ONE Egyptian Bass Player.

Soon they were posting Hamas Videos on my Message Board, and I finally had to disconnect my site.

I am not kidding.

I am now FB FRee.

Facebook is a plague.

Facebook has done nothing more than replace the backyard fence, water cooler and coffee klatchs where people exchange gossip and trivia.

That’s why I post so much about sports. My two primary interests are sports and politics and I don’t want to piss people off with my political views, which upset virtually everyone eventually.

Of course they would pick the perfect tool of the one world government, easier for the Communists to pick off neighbors and friends they never would have found otherwise.

“I never plan to be on it but if I do it will be with an alias.”

I signed up with an alias once to see if anybody was on there that i might want to reconnect with.

Nope.
Haven’t been back since.
