Tahe choice is as fatuous as the magazine itself.

Facebook gives a planetary megaphone to absolute doorknobs.?

Facebook (and its popularity) is really just a symptom.

The disease is the "look at me!" and "please like me!" attitude that has infected our modern society.

The rugged individualism that was the bedrock for the creation of America has been replaced with a herd mentality of "go along to get along."

Yes, when I need to know how to think, I look to Time to point me in the right direction. How can a bunch of lefty journalists with no real world experience steer me wrong?

Uh? I said they were right this time. Not that everything they ever print was right. Lay off the trigger, son.

The Net has done that in general.

Status update: After eating a bowl of cheerios, I went to the bathroom for a much needed bowel movement.

Actually, Sarah’s most effective use of Facebook is good supporting evidence for the choice. I want her to peak in 2012 on the first Tuesday in November.

Who the hell is he. Don’t do facebook. It invades your privacy.

>> What’s Facebook? It sounds like a stalker site.

It’s like a book of mug shots only the mugs provide the context and they (usually) aren’t in jail yet.

No, I’m not in it. :)

Best comment yet.

Sarah's successful use of FB to bring down the left in 2010 is the best reason to make Mark "Person of the Year."

(But I don't think that's what Time intended, do you? ;*)

Exactly.

Sarah dominated 2010, and we now have a GOP House as a result.

I ordered a new Porsche and commented about it on my Facebook page - to wit: "I can't wait for my 911"

Overnight, 4000 Muslims 'friended' me.

I thought Fox said they DID pick Assange. OK, well, I’m not sure this was the year that Facebook took over, but he did have a movie about him come out, and I think FB really is revolutionary in that people generally don’t hide behind a pseudonym, and most of the friends are people you actually know.

I can ruin your privacy, if you let it. Like anything else, responsibility is in the hands of the person using it. I have really enjoyed FB for catching up w/ old friends, seeing photos of their kids, sharing mine, etc. It has been a kick to see old high school friends I haven’t seen in 25 years.

That said, it also gets really annoying to hear everyone’s obsession with sports teams. I swear, for some people, it’s all about sports and TV shows. Either that’s all they’ve got, or they’re trying to avoid saying anything controversial.

>> That and twitter. And the other one...MySpace

Heh. I don’t do any of them. My parents didn’t do drugs in the ‘70s. My grandparents didn’t drink hooch in speakeasies.

I have a teenage sibling who isn’t allowed to twitter, and I’m thinking our next generation won’t be teleporting after 11pm either.

But at times it feels very...marginal.

There is just something about it... somebody can move away and if they’re a Facebook friend, it’s like they never left. You get insights into what people you know are thinking, sometimes too many insights. It makes communicating with family who aren’t so good at keeping their email programs working simple and easy. I know a lot of people have their concerns, but it’s a fantastically valuable service. And, the ads are generally not obnoxious - they have found a non-irritating way to advertise. I don’t know what the click-thru rate is, or how much they’re making off it, but I appreciate that they aren’t in my face, or jumping up when I’m trying to do something, or making noises that scare me half to death.
