Didn’t we use mainframe computers 65 years ago?

Not quite. In the Manhattan Project, Computer was actually a job title. Eight hours in front of an adding machine.

As a practical matter, NO. They had ENIAC at about that time, and used it to develope and break codes. The first REAL mainframes didn’t appear till the 1960’s.
