Exactly. It was Reid who caved, not DeMint. NRO has an extensive piece on today’s battle. Not only did more GOP senators announce that they would not support START in the lame duck session, DeMint got Reid to cave on when the START debate would begin. Hence, with the delay engineered by DeMint, in which Reid caved, there was no remaining rationale for reading the entire START treaty.

There is no upside for DeMint to offend fellow senators by ignoring Senate protocols. He will want others to help him on the omnibus.

I suggest that people read, do their research, and have some faith in our leaders before subjecting them to these unwarranted villifications. Target your ire on the Left.

Stop, think, and learn before mouthing off.

Correct, Demint got the delays in START’s movement he sought, just in a different form. And we still have his vow to have the entire 2,000 page, omnibus spending bill read aloud to watch out for.

It doesn't matter to anyone, except possibly the Clerk of the House, whether the Treaty gets read. The important thing is how much time debating it eats up. Reid agreed to give up the time it would take to read the bill and DeMint agreed to save the Clerk's voice. This little transaction changed nothing of substance. DeMint is milking his senatorial privilege for as much delay as possible. If the votes are there for START it will be confirmed if they aren't it won't be confirmed. In the mean time Jim DeMint is seeing to it that the process takes up as much time as possible, limiting Reid's capacity to do damage in the little time he has left with the 111th.

I guess we've been betrayed so often we come to expect it. We would all do well to stop and think before forming the circular firing squad.

Alright. I'll defer to your reasoning and stand down for now.

What we're really missing is a statement from someone in the know, that explains what DeMint did today. What you just said comes closer to doing that, than any post on the thread.

So, when I read this original article I flipped out. I called Sen. Demint’s office today and posted earlier how they said he was “for sure” going to demand a reading.
Then I see this article and my head almost exploded.

I come to this thread and realize, through the postings of other Freepers, that I had in fact been manipulated by the media into thinking one of my only defenders on Capital Hill was actually my enemy.

Thank you FreeRepublic I will have to start donating in the New Year!
