School security guard: 'I'm not a hero, folks' (Praises God during interview)

PANAMA CITY, Florida — The Florida security guard who confronted a gunman during a school board meeting said Thursday that he was "no hero" and wasn't thinking about bullets or dying.

His biggest fear, he said, was that he had let down his superintendent.

"I saw that first shot and I knew the superintendent fell backward," Mike Jones said during a press conference on Thursday. "I thought he'd killed him, that I'd let him down."

Jones, a 20-year police veteran, calmly, and at times tearfully, described the events leading up to Clay Duke taking his own life after firing at several school board members. Authorities said Duke, 56, was distraught that his wife had been fired by the school district earlier this year.

It was amazing that no one else was killed during this altercation. Even more amazing to hear someone on MSLSD praising God and praying for the family of the man he shot!

This guy is an example of training kicking in without the hesitation that comes with a delay. The man is a role model for everyone

In the interest of clarity and truth, the guard was not a “school guard”. He was a guard for the administration, specifically the “school board”. He wasn’t at a school. Hero none-the-less. Second to the school board member who attacked the gunman with her purse.

The gunman was upset that his wife got dismissed. Too bad he didn’t think about how she’d feel after he took those actions, and then got killed.

We should all find it instructive that a Christian with a firearm was needed to prevent a massacre from being committed by an atheist with a firearm.

I’m sure there’s some sort of deeper message in that, somewhere.

If sure is a long way from when men were embarrassed if their wife had to work.

Yep, as he said God certainly had His arms wrapped around that room, and the innocent folks in it.

I feel bad for the gunman's family; thankfully, he didn't hurt anyone but himself, that night.

Awesome! He invited the one reporter to come out to Wal-Mart and buy some toys for needy kids! Salt of the earth.

I watched that video from beginning to end. That is an impressive man. If I had a magic wand I'd happily use it to take Obama out of the oval office and put Mr. Jones right in the chair behind the desk.

This whole incident was amazing, from the gunman shooting directly at the superintendent and missing, to the outcome. Of course, this part of FL is not like where I live. I saw the Superintendent on Fox, and he was certainly giving God all the glory. This was, for the most part, a good story. I feel sorry for the family of the gunman, but otherwise, this was the best outcome possible.

That was a time when women weren’t recognized for the valuable work they did at home. I don’t want to return to the days of not having the option to work or stay home, what kind of work was appropriate, etc. For instance, the only female astronauts were those on science fiction shows. I wasn’t interested in having kids, and being a slave to a house. Good for those that do, but it wasn’t for me.

Oh, yes you are a hero!

If it wan’t for you, there’s little doubt that the gunman would have taken those people’s lives from them. You stopped a massacre.

Thank God for you, and thank God for your gun.

It’s a good story all around. Exceptional people in that town and that area of the state. Bible believers, for sure!

That’s where they get their courage and confidence.

The lady with the purse is my favorite!

That's what Feminists say. However, women were appreciated and put on a pedestal for the work they did. Women's volunteer groups ran the charities. Community standards were set by women. Women ran the PTAs raised children to be good citizens and kept our families together. Women had power and men respected women prior to Feminism. By the way, women were slaves only in the same way that men were slaves to their jobs.

I am not absolutely certain but I think he may have been a guard for the building. I haven't see it stated. He could have just been stopping by but not likely. He had been in the building for five minutes when he heard the shots and ran to the meeting room.

No doubt the ACLU is preparing as we speak to SUE the school board for allowing a building guard to say “God”.
