shotguns usually do the trick, not many stories where you here someone survived being shot with a shotgun. Probably just to many darn holes to patch em up.

At close range there is usually only one big hole.

True, the pattern remains fairly tight at close range ... till it hits the flesh. Then each pellet goes on a slightly different course.
