Putin pledges new mosque for Moscow

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin promised on Thursday that a new mosque will be built in Moscow.

"The construction of the mosque has been planned in Moscow. It will be done," Putin said during his annual Q&A session.

The mosque will be built in southeast Moscow, in a district with a large number of ethnic Tatars, the vast majority of whom are Muslims.

Local authorities vowed however to coordinate the construction of the mosque with the non-Muslim residents of the district.

There are currently only four mosques in Moscow - or one for every 500,000 Muslims in the Russian capital.

The Russians are also planning a new mosque for the territory they invaded and annexed from the Christian nation of Georgia.
The President of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov....proposed to build a mosque in Abkhazia.

“In case a site is allocated we as a sign of a good-neighborly relations between Russia and Abkhazia are ready to build a mosque”, R. Kadyrov said. - www.abkhaziagov.org

The "former" jihadist Kadyrov has already built the largest mosque in Europe right in Russia with Putin's blessing.

So much for Moscow being the ‘third Rome’ and heir to the Byzantine mantle.

“Boy, the Serbs must be really pissed.”

In 60-75 years, you won’t recognize Russia, because it might be a majority Muslim country by then.... Russiastan.

Eeh... I’d wait a bit. I’m not sure this will happen the way the designers figured.

In the 1300’s the Byzantine Emperor John VI Kantakouzenos brought the Ottoman Turks to Europe as mercenaries to help him fight a civil war against his own people.

I don’t think it is to work well for his rating.

It is estimated 90% of Russian Internet users supported massive anti-islamist rallies in Moscow

If Russia builds mosques like they built Embassies this could be brilliant. They can just listen in on the planning meetings.

In the same speech the Chekist Putin promised to crack down against the "virus" of nationalism.
"If a person has good immunity, these viruses remain dormant. And the same thing with society; if society's immune system is strong, if society is mature, then these bacilli of nationalism and radicalism will just sit there quietly, at cell level, and not act up." - Vladimir Putin, Russian "Prime Minister"
