The UN has tried previously to contact alien life. The two Voyager spacecraft launched in 1977 carried a message from Kurt Waldheim, then secretary-general, saying: “We step out of our solar system into the universe seeking only peace and friendship.”

However, scientists are now embarrassed by Mr Waldheim’s deployment as an interstellar envoy because it later emerged that he had been an enthusiastic member of the Nazi party.

Sometimes anomalies produce bright new directions and findings in science. Unfortunately this time, it is turning out to be rather mundane.

From the article: Though Turyshev's and Toth's results can't possibly hope to be as rock solid as a new planet, by the sound of things, they themselves have become convinced of the thermal cause of the anomaly, and the sanctity of Newton’s law. “Let me tell you this,” said Turyshev, as I begged him for details about the analysis. “Physics as we know it worked well.”

LOL.

Carrying identical plaques depicting a man and a woman, the atomic transition of hydrogen, and the location of our planet within the galaxy—a message to aliens

Oh great... we gave the alien invaders a road map to our planet?! Sheesh..

...whats starts out as an interesting article turns into another that assumes “dark energy” has been proven to exist as fact...instead of theory as it still is.

I hope any future spacecraft that are being sent out past our solar system states that Obama was an usurper and failed to qualify to be POTUS.

Just a bit of snarky humor for the closet liberal posters here at FR.

And birthers become national heros all across America, songs are created, statues built, new schools named in honor of the bravest birthers.

And of course all the syndicated TV birther shows.

I don’t think they actually “solved” the anomaly. They just wrote a 200 page article discussing various possible causes.

My favorite part: “After decades spent thinking, arguing, hoping, and in the words of Turyshev, “making a career off of it,”...”

But then, I’m biased.

Why aren’t the eggheads ever named, “John Smith” or “Ben Dover”? Their names are always something foreign, intricate and smart sounding.

Kurt Waldheim should have added the following to the bottom of the plaque:

“Eat more chikin”
