I love the way that the latest technology always seems to make the planes look cooler.

I mean, you could get technology that makes the plane look like a box. But no! It looks more & more awesome

Not bad for a couple of kerosene-burners.

There we've got both the old and the new, but ain't neither one of 'em slow...

Ya know, they’re not twins, but definitely siblings. Close resemblance.

Well there was the F-117 Nighthawk... sometimes refered to as the "Hopeless Diamond" after it's decidedly non-aerodynamic shape.

Not aerodynamic, but still totally cool

Several years ago, my Niece dated a pilot from Eglin. I once asked him what the FF meant on a plane’s tail as it seemed to be the ones they always showed on TV.

He said it stood for “First Fighter Wing”, out of Langley. He said among the pilots it was often called “Worst Fighter”. Apparently he didn’t think much of them.

I noticed the F-22 has TY on it which I think must be Tyndall.

Back in my drinking days, I used to guzzle with a former F4 Phantom pilot. He talked about when the F15s started to show up in service and how in a single day he and his fellow hot shot Phantom drivers became some of the humblest folks in the USAF.

I suspect a similar thing happened the first day the F22s showed up to play with the Eagles.

One from here.

Lead plane is from Tyndall AFB Panama City, Florida...thus the "TY" on its tail.

Sweet post.
Was working at Kadena AB on Okinawa when the F-22 deployed there - they put on quite a show.
Got to watch them go against the F-15s - the turning radius of the F-22s is incredible - too bad for the F-15s!

Ben Rich was the guy who designed the jet engine nacelles on the A-12/YF-12/SR-71 for Kelly Johnson.

Ben later followed Kelly as the director of the Skunk works, during which time the F-117 was designed.

Ben said in his autobiography that the angular look of the Nighthawk, made up of flat polygons, was due to the limitations of the technology at the time; particularly the available power of the computer simulations of the Radar cross section.

Only 183 F22s.

Tragic.
