Symptoms of the flue include higher than normal temperature, runny sinuses, aches and pains. The disease is the flue. The rest are symptoms of the flue. Liberalism is the disease. Global warming, worshiping ancient goddesses, and a desire for massive wealth-redistribution are symptoms of the disease.
One symptom has been treated (apparently by God) or, alternatively, by the luck of solar cycles. Much like taking an anti-histamine stops your nose from running, chance, or just plain timing has, or God with a huge sense of humor, have treated the global warming symptom and reduced it to an occasional recurrence that can be treated by application of a half-dozen well reasoned articles.
Liberals remain very much in our system. One more permanent treatment might be to dissolve the UN, which appears to be the Typhoid Marry of Liberalism. Another permanent solution would be to take back the school system at all levels and insist on a curriculum inspiring reasoning rather than emotion. By applying both treatments, I think Liberalism could be relegated to the backwaters of irrelevant pre-Christian civilizations like those in California. We should probably erect a fence along the California border with The United States to prevent contagion by migrating voters.
