I year or two ago I looked into taking the train from Orlando to New Mexico. The Amtrak website plotted my trip from Orlando to Richmond, VA, then a bus from Richmond to some podunk VA town to pick up the train again - to Chicago. Then Chicago to NM. It was like 4 or 5 days just to get there.

Why in the world would anyone want to go to NM via Richmond, VA? Once you pick up I-10 (driving) in Jacksonville, you just shoot straight across, for Heaven’s sake.
