1) It was "closer than it looked"not because Harry Reid had 59 votes secretly locked up if he could only have gotten one more (though that's possible) but because if one or two senators had ostentiously switched in the weeks leading up to the vote then "at least three other votes would have gone with them and we would have lost."

Words of wisdom here!! Watch out for midnight legislation. Its all they know and have.
yep. I have nothing against some form of legal immigration (e.g. merit based system, e.g. get a physics PhD from Stanford and get temporary green card), but this amnesty idea must be killed once and for all.
I don’t know Congress rules well enough if it is still possible to sneak it somewhere (e.g. “deemed passed” or similar crap), but I assume Tea Party Senators are on full alert.
The worst part is that the true numbers are never released.
Disgusting that this vote was even this close. There are far too many traitors serving in our Congress.
I predict it will pass. SOMEONE will be bought off and switch their vote.
Also, don’t forget Reid’s dirty tricks such as “budget reconciliation.” Simple majority only.
So, get ready for the bad news.
This is Newsweak. But it is also Mickey Kaus.
Anyone knows where he stands with respect to supposed intellectual superiority to Sarah "refudiate" Palin?
Oh, and this was a written piece, apparently, and not a Tweet.
Cheers!
My first thought was, RINOs and Progressives should never be out of season.
Nice analogy.
It might.....if the WV GOP had a candidate.
So, was Brown the “41st” vote as he promised?
The vote should have been unanimous against this bill. They are not going to give up. They have momentum. The DREAM Act will become a battering ram. Hispanic groups have called for demonstrations nationwide and civil disobedience for Monday December 20th.
So where do these lawmakers come from? Do they have no sense of loyalty to American citizens first? No love of country? No historical memory?
Each time we get another assault on sovereignty, constitutional restraint and rule of law, the votes get closer and closer, whether it takes the form of an election, or a proposition on a ballot, or a congressional vote on a controversial bill, or a federal or Supreme Court ruling.
There is never anything close to unanimity. We constantly seem to escape the most seditious and outrageous shifts in policy by a hairs-breadth, on proposals which the vast majority of Americans (Congress included) clearly should identify as inimical to the values this country was founded upon.
The winning margins are getting smaller, not larger. I think the fate of a nation rests largely on its ability to cohere and share a unifying identity, and system of belief.
I think these close calls are an indication we are as a nation very near to being completely bifurcated. On this earth, historically, that has proven a very dangerous place to be.
With apologies to Langston Hughes
What happens to a DREAM deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore—
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over—
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
Post of the week! LOL
I think Rush explained last week that there can’t be a “budget reconciliation,” and thus a simple majority, because there is no budget.
Let them demonstrate...disply their mexican flags. It will show the rest of the public who these illegal aliens are in their heart of hearts...and it's not American, they're mexicans first, foremost, and always. Wherever these cockroaches congregate it begins to look like the third world, then becomes a third world craphole like the ones that they left.
“So, was Brown the 41st vote as he promised?”
Yes. Brown, Kirk and Maine sisters all opposed DREAM ACT. Their vote was crucial. Had libs managed to get one of them to switch, it would have passed (absent dems would have shown up and voted for it, just like in Obamacare).
Thanks for the Correction..

“I have nothing against some form of legal immigration”
Everyone who comes out sensibly against amnesty feels compelled to add the ‘legal immigration is okay’ disclaimer. You have ‘nothing against it’... but do you really think it’s been good for the country? I don’t. The harm to my culture done by foreigners outweighs the interesting food, or whatever else you got.
You think we benefit from a foreign ‘physics PhD from Stanford’? Show me the evidence that America lagged technologically before mass waves of immigration became the norm.
We should encourage replenishing our own population without foreign help. If all jobs went to Americans, maybe Americans would have more kids. And remember, children of even ‘temporary green card’ holders are citizens if they’re born here. That’s got to stop.
I’d support a candidate who calls for shutting the door. No legal immigration for at least twenty years. Sorry, Mister But I’m a Phd! Mister Drug Mule-slash-Drunk Driver-slash-Child Rapist-slash-Terrorist wrecked it for all of you. Go home.
Thank you Christine and all who supported her.
