Requiem for a DREAM
The Corner National Review ^ | December 18, 2010

Posted on 12/19/2010 10:14:05 AM PST by La Lydia

As Katrina notes below, the DREAM Act has finally been put out of our misery...But it’s bigger than that. The vote was the capstone of 10 straight years of successful defense against amnesties, following the passage of seven amnesties from 1986 to 2000. Only twice in the past decade did amnesties even get the approval of one chamber — the overall amnesty passed by the Senate in 2006 and the DREAM amnesty by the House earlier this month — but neither time did the amnesty reach the president’s desk.

This decade-long perfect record of stopping amnesty came despite the fact that the pro-amnesty side has held all the commanding heights of the economy and society: Big Business, Big Labor, Big Religion, Big Academia, Big Media, Big Philanthropy, and of course, Big Government. The open-borders side is backed by billionaires like George Soros, Rupert Murdoch, and Michael Bloomberg, plus scores of millions from mammoth foundations like Ford, Carnegie, and MacArthur, plus 98 percent of groups lobbying Congress on the issue.

But we had the public.

...the new Congress will be a very different animal. Fifty-three members of the House of Representatives who voted for the DREAM amnesty will not be returning in January. And it will finally be time to go on the offense. Among the goals: making E-Verify a standard part of the hiring process for all new employees, Steve King’s idea of denying the deductibility of all wages paid to illegal workers, ending the egregious Visa Lottery, and closing down the chain-migration-driving immigration category for adult siblings of U.S. citizens.

Rumor has it that Dirty Harry is trying to insert this bill inside another bill that will camoflage it entirely.

Stay alert, people. Dirty Harry & Nasty Nancy & Bumbling Barry are not done creating chaos.

Birthright citizens, even with illegal parents, are immediately eligable for welfare and all other manner of public entitlements. And you’re whistling past the graveyard if you don’t believe almost all of them get this.

Want to get rid of 12-18 million illegals?

As you say, end birthright citizenship.
Require every person to prove citizenship prior to recieving and payment or other public entitlement. This includes tax returns, EIC and child tax credits. This includes ellegal parents of anchor babies. We don’t even need a national ID to do this.

While I’m also a strong proponent of securing the border, just do the above and most will self-deport and we won’t even have to round them up.

A national E-Verify system is a must. I’m working with legislators in my state but would be more than happy to see this nationalized. This is a national security issue, too.

Also, stiff penalties to anyone employing illegal aliens. With an E-Verify system, feigned ignorance will be no excuse.

CA
You have it right as does laLydia
End anchor babies’s citizenship which sets off a chain of generations of people raping the benefits
enforce employment verification. E Verify is a really good start and is EASY for employers.

Whatever we do we must get it done within next few years before enough illegals get rights.

For the life of me I do not understand why legals and citizens thinki it is ok for illegals to be granted rights.
Even illegal children should NOT get citizenship let alone access to benefits.
I think we will keep pressure on
Thanks to Free Republic we know how many of us want out laws and our Constitution followed
