I don't see any hope for changing this mess. The female, Black, ex-welfare parasites would scream racist and sexist all over this land. Slick Willey hired a bunch of them in Arkansas when he was Co-Governor.

Not only are civilian DoD employees taking many of the same risks as the active force, they also now get to bunk and shower with open sodomites thanks to our beloved Senate. AND, the active force wouldn’t be able to do a thing without the civilians who provide the logistics to wage war. Someone has to ensure the GI has a gun, ammo, and a paycheck.

"The extent and the depth of it is new. This is a concerted, deep attack on public employees and public workers," said Gerald W. McEntee, president of the 1.6-million-member American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. "The problem in the economy has not been created by public workers. It was created by Wall Street, and this political sleight of hand will do nothing to solve the problem."

So, let me see if I've got this straight: the private sector (Wall Street), which is simply an extension of the private citizenry (for the most part), from which you confiscate the money you use to pay yourselves (with incredible, expensive, lifetime benefits which most of the private sector do not enjoy), is responsible for this economic "problem", and therefore, only the private sector should suffer, while you continue taking your hefty benefits at their expense?

These people are like a tick that has drained the last drop of blood from it's host, and then blames the dead animal because it has no more blood to drink.

Too many government workers believe that no matter how bad the economy is for the general public, they are too special to go without. These are the people we need to starve out.

an eight-hour day in a drab Independence Avenue office building can look like a supremely privileged lifestyle when Americans in the private sector are panicked and furious over what has happened to their own salaries, health coverage and 401Ks

The main difference between these "public servants" and hogs at a trough is, when the hogs retire...you eat them.

"Public employee" numbers (do-nothing bureaucrats and shovel-leaners)in most levels of government, could be slashed by at least 80%, with no noticeable disruption in service.

First, many if not most agencies need to be eliminated, and the departments of the executive branch seriously scrutinized.

The upcoming TEApublican government needs to develop a "quick-eval" system where the actual government workers are allowed to vote the deadbeats "off the island".

Reform/removal especially should include redundant mid-level management and dept/agency heads.

This should be a secretive operation with private sector moles place throughout to be "a fly on the wall". Evaluation votes should be secret ballot, to be reviewed by private sector professionals.

Temporary outside auditors should be paid a bounty for each worthless drone they out.

Remember, many if not most of these leaches got there through patronage.

There are a lot of civilian government employees getting sent to combat zones.

Whoop de frigging do. I got sent to a combat zone once, too. I think I was making about 375.00 a month. And if they don't like their duty station they're free to submit their letter of resignation. That's a privilege I didn't have btw.

You guys that like to lob insults, should really know what you are talking about.

For every Govt. droid 'sent' to a combat zone there are 10,000 parasitic leeches infesting the Dept. Of Health and Human Services Bureau Of Don't Hurt My Feelings or the Department Of The Interior Agency Of Wooly Mammoth Tick Research pissing away taxpayer money by the frigging truckload.

He was deployed to Afghanistan for 8 months,

8 whole months, eh? I have a friend who just got back from his 3rd 11 month tour in Iraq. There's a poster here who's been in Baghdad for over 5 years.

Boy, I’d like to know who are the people that are taking home 80,000 a year in pesion benifits (plus health care?. I’ve been working for the military for years and spent 23 years in the military itelf. Our pension isn’t even close to that. Try maybe half. The health care is also basic health with high deductables, no vision, no dental. I don’t knwo where they come up with these figures but the typical joe doesn’t ever see that.

Hanging on the apron strings of the regular military, eh? You all are sick puppies.

There’s plenty of civilian non-government folks traveling the world and working in or near war-zones. They get no “Droit de Seigneur” first rights (the government’s right to tax, to seize, jail and fine upon non-payment) to the dear money and wealth the rest of us own, inherit or otherwise have garnered.

Lavish pensions granted a few years work, especially those that allow double or triple dipping, beggar us all — and the military, the pensions, all the damn privileges granted veterans, are used as both the wedge and the cudgel to force us private citizens into compliance in being peons in servitude to the Federal and governmental classes — the military, the uniformed, the bureaucrats.

You make me sick.

Are you seriously demeaning a federal civilian employee who deployed to Afghanistan because they only went for eight months? I’m thankful to the people you know who deployed longer and/or more often. I greatly respect their service AS WELL AS federal civilian employees who work to support those who deploy. What I don’t get is someone who likes to bash all federal employees. Is national defense not an enumerated power? Isn’t deploying for even ONE DAY a sacrifice that most citizens don’t make? Is the military supposed to operate entirely without civilian support? Yet, some people prefer to sling mud at all federal employees regardless of what they do. Amazing!

Your hatred of veterans makes me sick. Why didn’t you serve? Hmmm? Got an excuse?

I don’t hate anyone. But I get sick of people — and too many “veterans” are first in line — who expect every thing to be done for them by the government.

I serve EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE. What about you?

bvw: “Hanging on the apron strings of the regular military, eh? You all are sick puppies.”

Are you some sort of anarchist? Do you even read what you write? DoD civilians are “sick puppies” for working with the active duty military? I gotta say that’s a new low for a Free Republic poster. Are you also anti-military? Do you even believe in the US Constitution?

I served 30 years alongside my husband. I raised the children while he was gone. As my certificate of appreciation says that I was given at his reitrement...

...has earned grateful appreciation for her unselfish, faithful and devoted service during her husband's xxx career,

Niteranger68: “Too many government workers believe that no matter how bad the economy is for the general public, they are too special to go without. These are the people we need to starve out.”

Just get rid of everyone who thinks they’re doing important work? What if some people ARE doing important work and aren’t easily replaceable? Fire them simply because they think they’re special?

Here’s the way it is babe: 99.9% of the jobs that must be done are done by folks who NEVER get some damn “Certificate of Appreciation”.

I’d say you have very little knowledge of American History and out Founding Principles. The greatest duty and service that any American has is to be a good Citizen.

I can't believe that you have been a member of this forum as long as you have.

Babe

What an asshat. Here is something for you dumbass, I'm proud of my certificate of appreciation. You probably wouldn't understand, since you are harboring so much rage at the military. Guess what, they gave cerificates to my kids, too. Oh no! I guess you have a problem with that, too. Jerk.

THE MILLIONAIRE COP (firefighter, teacher, federal bureaucrat) NEXT DOOR

Back in 94-95 I was on-site in a Fed Bldg in Chi for 18 months. It was for a Mechanical Construction Upgrade project. I was the Project Manager for my company.

From day one the horror stories started about doing work in that building (the 'Does and Don't s'). And during the project I learned of more horror stories from the Building Engineers who we became friends with in the 'smoking hideaway' of that No Smoking Building.

The worst prolly was the KNIFE FIGHT between two female gubmint (cough) *workers* (hint: they weren't white). Bottom line - neither could be fired due to their UNION contract, and not even suspended for a day. If any of us did that at our work place we'd be in PRISON pdq.

And then there were the 'Work Rules' and what was required of the 'workers'. They were so laughable and idiotic that none would fly in the Private sector. Not even one with union workers. They basically only had to show up four days a week -- and get paid for five days -- if a certain amount of files were processed. Which any normal person could do in two days at most.

There were about 2,000 to 2,500 people in that building sucking up OUR MONEY. And the actual work could have been done by about 500, which happened when Clinton shut the gubmint down.

There are hundreds of Fed Buildings like this across the USA. We could save BILLIONS each year by voiding every union contract and firing all these morons.
