High school punishes kids for wearing Christmas sweaters (Bah! Humbug!)

I think the ironic celebration of the holidays in the form of gaudy Christmas sweaters is kind of lame. But one Virginia high school’s punishment of a group that called themselves the “Christmas Sweater Club” just seems ridiculous, even by oversensitive public school standards.

Ten students at Battlefield High School in Manassas, Virginia faced detention and other punishment as a result of their involvement in the Christmas Sweater Club.

One of the students involved told WUSA that the school said they were “maliciously wounding other kids.”

The Club believes that the accusation stems from them throwing candy canes to other students at the halls.

Another club member told WUSA that an administrator told him that “the candy canes could be used as weapons by sucking on them and making them have sharp points.” The student said that no one had done that [ED. NOTE: Presumably because this isn't "OZ" and most high school aged kids tend not to need to shiv someone in the cafeteria].

When reached for comment, school principal Amy Etheridge-Conti said they did more than hand out candy and cheer, but she refused to comment specifically on the matter.

So in summary, no one involved seems to know what they did wrong. And it couldn’t be THAT serious, i.e. they didn’t viciously sodomize freshman boys in the locker room while wearing Christmas sweaters, since they only got detention and clean-up duty. Unless sodomizing freshman boys is so common at this high school that it’s now a slap on the wrist punishment. Hmm. What’s your deal, Battlefield High School?

A government agency denying the civil rights of students?

If people homeschooled, they wouldn’t have these kinds of problems. Break the teacher’s unions and shut these liberals down.

Were I a parent of one of these students, i’d show up at that school in principal’s office to rip them a new one. i’d likely bring a lawyer as well.

They said candy canes can be sharpened into weapons. So I guess pens and pencils are locked in the armory.

We used to punish people who did things that everyone recognized as bad, because they violated the written law.
Then we punished law abiding citizens, by passing laws that made it harder for them to remain law abiding citizens.
Then we started punishing law abiding citizens based on whims of government functionaries -- "Your dog approached me, so I shot it."

And now we punish people for wearing sweaters. Just because.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

###

I see snowflakes, bows, Christmas trees and stars.

I guess donning a sweater with a ...gasp...Nativity Scene, would have meant the electric chair.

Unlike sharpened pencils and metal math compasses, right? Ooooh, what a scary gang of thugs - a few nerdy looking guys in Christmas sweaters who drink mugs of hot cocoa of all things!!!!!

“Mother Kathleen Flannery said a administrator called her and explained that, “not everyone wants Christmas cheer. That suicide rates are up over Christmas, and that they should keep their cheer to themselves, perhaps.”

Education majors are the dumbest of the dumb. Perhaps.
