ICYMI: Lame-Duck Session Churns Out Surprising Successes

Key point: "I think actually you could make the case that this is the most productive lame duck even without START," said Norm Ornstein, a congressional scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. "If you get food safety through and I think there's a pretty strong chance they'll get some version of the 9/11 bill through, so if you put that together with the tax agreement and "don't ask, don't tell", it's a smashing set of achievements, whether you like them or don't like them."

_________________________________________________________

I was beyond angry when I read this article. No Republican can lay the blame for the obvious truth of these premises on the Democrats. My wrath is reserved for the turncoats in my party and the representatives we elected to stop this. Right out of the gate, they have failed us!

When Barrack Obama was sworn into office and the Democrats took control of both houses, the Republican Party was essentially silenced. Closed door meetings and and secret negotiations between Democrats and Democrats became the order of the day. When Republicans protested the lack of bi-partisanship; the only answer we received was "We won."

Using these un-American and procedurally shady practices to the maximum allowed by law(and some that are in doubt as being so) the Obama Administration has brought us, in two short years, to the brink of a Socialist/Marxist takeover of our government.

By the skin of our teeth, and because of the efforts of many dedicated and vocal champions of freedom, the American people awoke from their lethargy and, by due process, began the long way back from the brink of American demise, both economically and politically, by making the unequivocal statement that Obama's policies and those of the Democratic Party were unacceptable. They demanded that the majority of those detrimental policies be reversed or overturned. There was even a new element called the Teaparty who would, supposedly, be the watchdog to make sure we found our way back from the abyss of the past several years.

It has been made clear, in this lame duck session of Congress, that all those bright hopes which we hung on these duly elected champions of our principles and values, have virtually disappeared into the black hole that is Washington, to a place where they can neither hear nor care anymore what the people think who are responsible for their elevation to that place of trust. It seems that, once escounced in the Halls of Congress, they become overwhelmed with a completely new set of rules and concerns that have nothing to do with the American people and everything to do with that shadowy, sinister world called "politics."

Please read the above article once again, maybe twice. If you are as sickened and outraged as I am about the immediate and abject failure of these turncoat, tone-deaf and weak kneed representatives to carry out the will of those of us who so whole-heartedly pinned our hopes for America on them, then use your outrage to find a way to convey our ire and displeasure.

As in any Black Hole, there doesn't seem to be any method to reach those who have been swallowed there. Switchboards have been turned off, phone banks shut down and e-mails unacknowledged. In effect it seems, they are no longer a part or extension of "We The People."

I have no idea how to overcome this, but if we can't find a way, then we no longer have hope of turning our nation back to its great values and the form of government that has made us great.

Brainstorm, give ideas, HELP! Please!

Yeah, wait until the New Congress begins on January 4, 2011.

Did you imagine the new people were already seated?

I am sending the following to my new congressional representative and, if you agree, please do likewise. This country is in ENOUGH trouble without defeated and often embittered officials vindictively getting in a few licks at the folks who sent them packing.

Dear Representative Woodall,

The recent “lame duck” activity in both the House and Senate makes clear the need for legislation to prevent ousted incumbents from introducing or voting on legislation prior to the seating of the person the people have chosen to replace that member. When an incumbent elected public official is not returned to office, it is the same as when an employee is fired. The people (obviously) no longer trust that person to represent them. It would certainly be bizarre for a terminated employee in the private sector to be allowed to set binding policy for his/her replacement. It should not be different for elected employees of the Federal Government. In the private sector in which I worked for 40 years, almost without exception, a fired employee is asked to pack up and move out THAT DAY — some with the assistance of burly security folks.

I appreciate your efforts on behalf of We the People and in defense of the Constitution. As soon as possible, I am asking you to put forward legislation to prevent “Lame Ducks” from introducing legislation or voting after they have been “fired” by the people who sent them to Washington.

For God and the Republic,

Excellent analogy.

No kidding. I’m getting pretty damned tired of hearing how badly my new congressman has screwed me when he hasn’t even gotten to Washington yet.

Its time to do away with the lame duck. There’s no legitimate reason for it.

None of the items that have been signed into law in a Democratically manufactured “rush tactic” needed to be addressed in such a hasty and sloppy manner.

We now have, in the works, a matter that is overwhelmingly important to our National Security in the form of an agreement with Russia. Instead of holding off until the full Congress can be seated for debate, it is being rushed through by a bunch of tired, stressed politicians in a hodge-podge atmosphere. This can’t bode well for anyone(except maybe the Russians)

That’s the Democrat sleaze tactic that got us the Healthcare Bill. Yeah, we’ll just pass it so we can go home claiming productive results. After January 5th, we can find out what’s in it and cry about it. Not even approaching smart.

Money talks.

These RINOs, and the RNC which supports them, can't campaign for reelection without money.

Starve the beast!

Good post A2F, and agree with Dick Bachert. The new 112th Congress should once again address the Lame Duck situation as was attempted, but screwed up in 1932-33, whenever, and this time write it correctly. Perhaps eliminate all of the Congress persons involved in the current election cycle on election day, reinstating those that won reelection within say 24 hours, and sending the losers packing.

NO MORE LAME DUCK CONGRESS. It’s a positive possibility that must be addressed NOW.

We know there are at least 9 Senators whi are listed as Republcians who are outright traitor to the party, to the voters, and to our country.

They must be dealt with severely.
Even if it forces them to stop calling themselves Democrats.

If the republicans do not deal with these traitors harshly, then we are in for more of the same old same old.

Yeah, wait until the New Congress begins on January 4, 2011.

Many of us expected Republicans in the Senate to the message sent by voters in the mid-terms. Obviously, far too many didn't and need to be cleansed from the party at all costs.

There is no chance of anything meaningful getting done in 2013 unless more of these RINOs are exterminated and replaced with conservatives.

Even from a pure political standpoint, it boggles the mind Senate Republicans would be so stupid as to give Obama multiple victories in the lame duck session.

The Republicans don't run the Senate and they are only now going to have enough seats to regularly overcome the likes of Snowe and Collins.

Having the House is very important because ALL revenue measures must begin in the House.

Obama has been cut off at the knees.
