Man was shot by accident: Crown

An Alliston man who accidentally shot his best friend in the abdomen at point-blank range with a handgun was released on bail Monday.

Cody Edward Rose, 20, stood in the prisoner's box in handcuffs and appeared relieved when the court released him to his father with $5,000 bail. He is charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm, pointing a handgun, and careless storage of a firearm.

"This seems to be an unintentional but careless and reckless use of a firearm," said Crown attorney Lorne McConnery, who did not oppose his release.

Court heard Rose and his best friend, Chris Redmayne, 20, had spent the night drinking and doing "soft drugs," -- a term usually used for marijuana -- at Rose's home on the 3rd Line of Essa, north of Alliston. The two drank through the night and got to playing around with the guns, which were legally owned by both Rose and his father.

One of the guns was a Glock 45 handgun.

"Both of them admitted they were playing with the firearm," said the Crown.

He said Rose, who has no criminal record, was holding the Glock when, suddenly, the gun went off, striking Redmayne in the abdomen and causing significant injuries. He was rushed by ambulance to Alliston hospital and then taken to Sunnybrook hospital in Toronto for surgery. He is now in critical, but stable condition.

Nope, but if you’re drunk and stoned you can sure pull the trigger by accident. Darwin Award contenders.

Hey dude, let’s play Russian Roulette. There’s only 1 round in the magazine and it can hold 10, so there’s only 1 chance in 10 that you lose, right?

Yeah, dude, hold muh beer.

Ah, this is Ontario, Canada. Given the Canadian aversion to handguns and love of gun control, how is this possible?

I mean, Canada has Gun Control — things like this are impossible when you have gun control. Therefore, it had to happen in Ontario, California, and not in Canada where there’s Gun Control.

Yeah, right.

Gee. I thought Glocks had double-triple-quadruple duty redundant safeties and couldn't 'go off' unless it was intentional?

In any case what could ever go wrong when Booze, Drugs, Loaded Guns and 'playing around' are involved?

(Hey Joline, here - hold ma beer.)

It's okay.
It was a 45 AGP, not a 45 ACP. s/

They do have 3 safeties. Unfortunately for these 2 stoned idiots they don't work when the trigger is pulled as that, by design, causes the pistol to discharge.
