(CNN) -- A 27-year-old mother surrendered her baby girl to firefighters in Los Angeles on Christmas Eve, authorities said Saturday.
She told firefighters at Fire Station 46 that the newborn was just six hours old. The firefighters accepted the girl, wrapping her in a blanket. She was healthy and did not appear to have been neglected or abused.
Firefighters named the newborn Noel, in honor of the Christmas holiday...

I'm not praising her lack of parenting skills or will, just saying, here's a baby that was SAVED.
Good for California that they have a law that allows this:
In California, a parent or legal guardian can surrender a newborn at fire stations and hospital emergency rooms with no fear of arrest. The law is meant to protect infants from being hurt, neglected or killed.
A Christmas miracle. I love it
Absolutely.
well said.
Thank you Dear Lady for choosing life and giving your little girl a great gift.
A loving home with a family that will adore her.
May your baby know that you are her hero. Not someone who “abandoned” her, but unselfishly gave her away to save your life.
They should name her.... Kris Smith. Thanks fellas... firefighters are the best.
Yep, that was my reaction too.
Thank you, Lord. (once again)

Good that it’s a national news story. There will be no shortage of adoptive parents who will wish to take the baby into their hearts and their homes. Were all abandoned and neglected children so lucky.
Praise the Lord for this law in California. California may have a lot of problems and abortion may be legal but they have realized that a life, any life, is important and valuable.
We have that in MA also,it’s called Safe Haven.
A wonderful thing that I assumed was nationwide.
I share your sentiment. Sort of an impromptu way to "give a baby up for adoption", but so much better than most of the alternative scenarios.
I also hope that the little girl comes to understand why her mother gave her up. That will be hard, but may God grant her the ability to deal.

Thank you, Lord!

In a nutshell, there's your alternative to the abortion and single-parent plague: adoption and orphanages. Funny how an old discredited institution becomes seen in a better light when we land in the fire.
We have that law in Texas.
It's not federal, but per-state. However, as of 2008, all 50 States have enacted some form of Safe Haven law.
Thank you for mentioning that, since I didn't realize that all 50 States now had it. Nebraska and Alaska were the most recent to enact something.

As the father of two grown children, a son and daughter, I cannot fathom giving up my infant child but I am thankful that this young woman did just that so that this little baby can have a real chance at life.
I didn't get that, until I said it out loud, LOL! Excellent!
Is she a U.S. citizen or a Mexican citizen?
