The only thing that bothers me is the fact the man took the 10 grand, no matter how much he needed it, a good honest deed should not be rewarded monetarily.

Certainly brings suspicion upon him, warranted or unwarranted.

I agree. If I found the dog/truck, and could do something to re-unite with the owner, that's my duty as a Christian.

Of the dozens of lost animals I’ve found over my many years I have never (and will never) accept a reward for doing the right thing. If someone persists I request they make a donation to the local SPCA or similar.

I could never accept payment for returning a lost animal or item to the owner.....if the owner insisted on payment I would suggest donating to a well run charity......knowing God and my kids were watching me doing the right thing is reward enough for me......

...the man took the 10 grand...

That was my first reaction, but if the guy is legit, he may have figured that anyone who could cough up $10,000 for a dog can well afford it and this finder really needed some extra bucks.

How so? Didn't the dog's owner offer that reward?

The old school rule handed down to me was to take the money on the first offer is impolite, to refuse it twice is impolite.
